Personally, I want the airport to do well but they bleed money every year as is. I am not sure an expansion when you are relying exclusively on one airline is the best use of funds. If Allegiant goes under, gets bought out, or decides to leave you are stuck with no one.

They get the luxury of blowing a bunch of federal money on it, I guess. It think the government covers something like 75% of it. But 7 million out of the local government seems a tad silly when they aren't even making a profit as is.

Why don't we privatize BLV, the airport that actually needs to be privatized?

^ That requires investors willing to assume the airport's risks and prospects - you can't force anyone to buy it if no one's biting.

It's likely much, MUCH easier to get a ROI out of STL than it would be from BLV, hence why STL's the one with all the privatization talk.

Yea, it is hard to get anyone to buy into an airport that is losing money every year and there isn't much prospect for it to make money.

Probably for Spring Break.

In March flights to RSW/PGD on Saturday will be
1x Sun County
5x Southwest

Sunday will be
1x Sun Country
4x Southwest
1x Allegiant

SY seems smart to start off small in STL and take baby steps with adding frequencies. So far they must be experiencing success or they wouldn't be adding. Curious as to what they may add in the future. Does STL get much O & D to Myrtle Beach, Biloxi, Savannah a few flights per week? Would they compete with AA, WN & AS on a few flights per week to LAX or SAN?

G4 runs 2x weekly to Myrtle Beach from BLV in Summer already. So not sure they would do it. Savannah would be cool. SAN already is pretty covered with AS/WN running 3 daily most of the time. I’ve been curious if they would try PDX in the summer. WN is pretty full on it and AS was full when they were running it on an E175. I am curious to what/if they try for summer routes.

Yeah, WN is routinely running 738s with 90% loads on that route now, and AS SEA service is starting to get wobbly. I believe when PDX was cut, they switched from 1 E75 and 1 739 to 2x 739s, but it seems that the SEA frequencies are sometimes going to 738s. Interesting trend.

Loads are good for AS on SEA still. 86% for Jan-Aug so far. 90s for most of summer. Passengers are up 3.5% on it over last year thru August.

They have gotten somewhat better. Last Southwest extension they had a release really early (before I even woke up). Usually something comes out later in the day, at best. Probably depends on how proactive the airline is telling them things.

Watching the meeting from yesterday.

More opening T2 to T1 talk. Sounds like it still would take Southwest opening more gates but if they do it would open all the way so you could clear security from T1 if your flight was out of one of the old D gates and cut down on your walk.

They are adding a fast service type restaurant somewhere near the bend past E33. No word on the restaurant.

Lots of T2 traffic talk.

For Pick ups, they are going to move the Customs/Boarder police parking to open up some spots there next week.

Option 1 - paving and adding spots just east of T2 in the grass area.
Option 2 - Entire South lane would be cars only
Option 3 - Most of North lane for cars (but some shuttles would still share it)

I am all for option 2. Don't mix shuttles and cars.

Drop offs
They are going to restripe lanes to add 6 or 8 more spots. They are pretty wide now so they would put them to a more normal width.

There is also talk of adding a 3rd turn in lane coming from the west. Adding 2 new garage entrances.

A shame they don't look at adding another level or two to the parking garage for T2. That sucker is a mess. I don't park there for flights, just for when I have to pick-up/drop.

Not sure if the current one was build to be able to add more levels. That said they could add one to the side that doesn't have a garage over it (or make Lot E a garage). It just gets expensive I know.

I still can't believe they only have 8 pick up spots for a terminal doing over half the traffic to the airport. Crazy.

Re-opening D concourse would be lovely and bittersweet - as it would be open rather than sitting vacant but would still be mostly vacant as the gates sit empty.

That being said re-opening a portion of it may work as a way to perhaps expand the footprint of the terminal area for Terminal 2 ... go out west, then L turn back in creating a box like design to support larger facilities for customs and increased room along the roadway for traffic on the landside.

An idea that would take money, take time and would potentially be very ugly to get there in more ways than one, but once there, will be worth it.

They should re-open the D concourse and turn it into something like the tunnels at DTW and ORD with a trippy light show and music.

Although I guess no one would really need to go through it, since there are no official connections between C and E.

I guess Cape/Air Choice One could get rid of the shuttle between the two after that.

Now we know where the new food location will be in T2. They are replacing the chapel with it.

https://www.kmov.com/news/airport-chape ... c4fa6.html

Also, it looks like ride share pickups in T2 are moving to over in front of the exit for FIS. So no more ride share in the regular passenger pick up.

International for June (Didn't include Apple Vacation charters in this)

WOW 77% outbound 70% inbound
Southwest to Cancun 96% out 87% in
Frontier to Cancun 92% both ways
Air Canada to Toronto 93% out 87% in

Really good to see AC so high.

From the airport's website:

The Airport Interfaith Chapel holds on average 580 Protestant and Catholic services every year. The Chaplaincy also maintains prayer rugs to be used by travelers of the Muslim faith.

Terminal 1 Chapel– Near Exit 11 (pre-security)

Catholic Mass Monday - Friday 12:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday
Protestant Services - Sunday 10:00 & 11:00 a.m. in the Airport Chapel.

Terminal 2 Chapel Near E-33 (post-security)

Catholic Mass Sunday 10:00 a.m., Communion Services Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m.
Protestant Services Sunday at 9:00 a.m. held in the Chapel near Gate E33.

I was driving on Manchester near 270 in west county (Right by Catholic Supply, I'm sure you know where that is now :( ) and I saw a big sign saying nonstop to florida and at the bottom in smaller text it said sun country and STL lambert airport so I'm assuming it was a joint marketing effort. Pretty nice to see that they are taking the time to market the flight unlike F9 and WW

Will DL or AA ever add STL-JFK nonstop service? The St. Louis metro area is currently the largest U.S. metro area without any nonstop service to JFK, and either DL or AA adding STL-JFK nonstop service would improve access to transatlantic connections from STL.

JFK is already served nonstop from MSP, ORD, IND, DTW, CVG, CMH, and CLE in the Midwest. I am surprised that JFK isn't already served nonstop from STL when it is served nonstop from IND, CMH, and CLE in the Midwest. However, I can understand DL serving JFK nonstop from MSP, DTW, and CVG since DL has hubs or focus cities at MSP, DTW, and CVG, and I can also understand ORD being served nonstop from JFK since ORD is located in the largest market in the Midwest.

DL used to fly STL-JFK nonstop, I did STL-JFK-LHR back in 2011.

I wouldn't count on AA ever adding it since it seems like PHL is quickly becoming their main TATL hub. But I don't know why DL axed it. Would be nice if we had JFK service, seems like there's always cheap fares out of JFK but getting there from here is such a PITA.

I agree that DL could bring back STL-JFK nonstop service. In addition, DL's transatlantic codeshare partners SU, UX, and KQ all serve JFK but not ATL, BOS, or DTW.

In addition to bringing back STL-JFK nonstop service, DL could also add STL-BOS, STL-LAX, and STL-SEA nonstop service.

DL currently serves BOS nonstop from MSP, DTW, CVG, MCI, MKE, IND, and CMH in the Midwest, and DL has also already announced nonstop service to BOS from CLE and ORD starting next year.

DL currently serves SEA nonstop from MSP, DTW, CVG, MCI, MKE, ORD, and IND in the Midwest. STL is also one of the top domestic destinations traveled to out of SEA that isn't currently served nonstop from SEA on DL.

DL currently serves LAX nonstop from MSP, DTW, CVG, MCI, IND, and CMH in the Midwest.

I think that DL is likely to announce STL-BOS nonstop service in 2019 since BOS currently only has nonstop service out of STL on WN and since DL will be serving BOS nonstop from 9 other destinations in the Midwest in Fall 2019.

Would love to have all that. The rest of the Midwest does
I'd rather be in FLYover country than layover county

Guessing STL (like MCI) are far enough west that AA can route people thru ORD/PHL for TATL. DL can route them thru DTW/ATL. ORD would be backtracking for most the other non DL/AA hub ones. Even DTW would be for most also. No real need for JFK. There are TATL places DL flies from JFK that it doesn’t the others but it must not be enough for them to add the flight.

For years WN had only 2x daily BOS-STL and that would've been a great opportunity for DL or B6 to come. Now WN will be up to 5x daily which makes it a much harder entrance for other carriers.
DL STL-SEA - not sure if the market could support 3 carriers on this route.

DL STL-LAX also not sure if the market could support 3 carriers.

There are some markets that are already served nonstop from SEA on AS, DL, and WN, including Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

STL can probably support nonstop service to SEA on DL in addition to AS and WN if MCI already has nonstop service on AS, DL, and WN. However, WN will only be operating MCI-SEA nonstop service on a seasonal basis in 2019, with WN MCI-SEA nonstop service being discontinued on January 4, 2019 and resuming on June 9, 2019. There are also more connecting opportunities on WN at STL than there are at MCI, and some of the passengers on the WN SEA-STL nonstops are connecting to destinations east of the Mississippi River.

Of the top domestic destinations traveled to from SEA that don't already have nonstop service out of SEA on DL, only SEA-BWI, SEA-BUR, SEA-DFW, SEA-IAH, SEA-EWR, SEA-OAK, SEA-ONT, SEA-PHL, SEA-DCA have more O&D demand than SEA-STL does. However, while DL doesn't serve BWI, BUR, EWR, OAK, ONT, and DCA nonstop from SEA, DL does already serve LAX, JFK, SFO, and IAD nonstop from SEA.

For all of you still living in STL, when you go to book trans Atlantic international, what pops up as the most common connection for Delta? Detroit or Atlanta?
if assumptions could fly, airliners.net would be the world's busiest airport

ATL probably, but it is because there are more flights to ATL. MSP shows up a fair amount also. It is fairly even between those 3. All 3 you can pretty easily pick if you have a preference. I haven't had any trouble getting DTW. I picked a random Friday in June to AMS of the top 6 cheapest, 2 are to each of the 3 airports. For CDG, 2 ATL 1 each of DTW/MSP/CVG for the cheapest fare.

I see ATL more as well, but mostly due to my preference of DL for transatlantic flights. Of all options, I find that DTW is the best and easiest from STL, and DL offers a variety of good flights. Next year we will use MSP to get to CDG then NCE, but I selected this option mostly due to length of connection time at CDG. We learned the hard way a few years ago that a 90 minute connection time at CDG is not enough.
