Makes me wonder if Lufthansa is beginning or gonna to retire the A343s way sooner than I thought. Majority of them are around 19-21 year old mark. I guess this will be the end of regular A340 service for good in ATL.

Sorry, you're right. WS serves YYC-BNA. I still think ATL-YVR, and ATL-YYC, beyond 1x a week, would be good for DL or WS. Perhaps a CS100? Florida seems the only main connecting market YVR/YYC-ATL would serve, and I'm not sure how it large it would be, given the distance/intermediate options.

I never understood why DL dropped the ATL-YVR service? I used to fly it 2-3 times per year for about 5 years but that was about 10 years ago at the last time if I recall correctly. I would like to see that service come back either with DL metal or WS.

Also, I was on a B6 flight two weeks ago, ATL-BOS, and while talking with a flight attendant she mentioned that B6 internally stated that they were looking to start ATL-LGB. Anyone know anything about this or a source on B6 somehow?

I actually had no idea of this, but if they go through with it, I would think that they would have a better chance of succeeding on ATL-LGB now as opposed to when they first came here back in 2003. I remember the reason why B6 pulled out of ATL that year was because competition between Delta and AirTran in the LA region at the time was too much for them to handle. Of course, things are different now, so it will be interesting to see how the route would perform now given that AirTran is no longer in business, and that AA, DL, F9, NK, and WN all fly to LAX from ATL.

AA also serves LAX nonstop from ATL in addition to DL, WN, F9, and NK.

What are the chances that Emirates adds ATL-DXB in the next 3 years or so? I know Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines already fly here, but I would just love to see the tail of an Emirates 777-200LR parked at Concourse F.

Virgin Atlantic has brought its A340-600 back to the ATL from LHR. I think they might of started back up around the beginning of April as VIR103, however it's gonna be a mix of A340/A330s on this route. The A346 will return tomorrow Tuesday, and on Wednesday the A333 will take the route.

Also, while spotting at the airport Saturday, I saw 2 Southwest 737 MAX 8s landing on the south side which was pretty interesting to see two instead of one. It makes me wonder when American will bring their MAX 8s to ATL, would be awesome to see both airlines with the 737 MAXs.

EK coming to Atlanta is always a possibility but I just don't see it happening soon. EK flirted with the route after Delta pulled out of Dubai but instead opted to open MCO and FLL. With JetBlue now serving BOS, JFK, FLL, and MCO from Atlanta, customers have a lot of opportunities to connect onto EK flights at each airport. Add in the fact that Emirates is just about maxed out at DXB and I just don't see them using a slot for Atlanta. We will see MCO and FLL go daily year-round before ATL has a chance.

Emirates Cargo operated to ATL for about a year but pulled out. Qatar has positioned itself as the dominant ME3 carrier in Atlanta with a daily A350-900 flight and 1-2 daily 777F flights.

Good points

I'll continue to remain optimistic about EK flying here someday, but I guess if any foreign carrier is going to start ATL soon, it's more than likely going to be WestJet given their new JV with Delta.

Wow, I never thought the United 757-200 would come here for normal commercial service! It's inflight as we speak to EWR. Extremely rare unless they are starting to bring them down here. The reg # is N34131.

Did they run out of ERJ-145s or something? :duck:

Just kidding. Looks like it was a one-off equipment sub for an Airbus A319. Even if you search the status of the flight it shows the aircraft type as A319 until you open it. Then it says 757. I tried dummy booking the next few days and it's back to the mix of A320s and 737s. Nice to see, though. Hartsfield used to be 757 heaven. Now it's just MD-80 and 737 central :yuck:

748 should be operational in June along with Delta 350 Airbus service.

Planned changes as follows.

Seoul Incheon – Atlanta eff 02JUN18 747-8I replaces 777-300ER

Does anyone know how Jetblue's flights to MCO, FLL and JFK are doing? NYC is a huge market from ATL, business o&d plus VFR. And I know Atlantans love the Mouse and the boy wizard so a single flt to MCO shouldn't be hard to fill. Plus there's VFR on that and FLL for sure.

Will WN ever add nonstop service to ABQ, CVG, SMF, and/or SJC from ATL? WN has nonstop service from ATL a few destinations that were never served by AirTran, including CLE, DAL, GSP, and OAK. WN will also be adding nonstop service to BNA from ATL starting on August 7th, and WN still has opportunities to add nonstop service to additional domestic destinations from ATL.

Per Flightaware, service started on the 21st of May. It was supposed to start on June 2nd, but I suppose demand was strong enough to warrant an early launch.

I wouldn’t doubt WOW Air starting ATL in a couple years or so, given that Icelandair doesn’t beat them to the punch and that they can successfully compete with Delta at DTW.

There's 2 huge things to consider and the largest negative is being a Delta mega-hub. While FI and WW are successful in places like MSP & DTW, it'll take a lot for one of them to be successful in ATL. Traffic to KEF is there, they could pull it off. The only big turn off is the probability of DL starting KEF along side of FI or WW and taking the share.

Being a DL mega-hub shouldn't be that big of a hindrance. I say that because the market is there. And believe it or not, not everyone in Atlanta is loyal to DL/Skyteam. Frontier and Spirit have built up a pretty loyal following here in the metro area and both Lufthansa and British Airways have been here for 20+ years. And if a long haul LFF comes into play I'm sure people will utilize it. Contrary to popular belief ATL is a large O&D market. There's more than connections here and not everyone flies Delta.

It's actually more of a deterrent than you think. WW doesn't think they can justify ATL yet because DL WILL add KEF in response. Delta could run a 76W on ATL-KEF if they wanted to and charge maybe $200 more than WW and win over the Atlanta point of sale. This route should be handled with a carrier with more stability (ie Icelandair).

Are they completely ditching the orange panels?

In addition to the concourse modernizations, all of the steel beams for the North Terminal canopy have been installed, and work should begin soon on the installation of the ETFE covering, which will help to block the rain during severe weather events.

Good evening everyone! Its been a moment already since this thread was active! Anyway just want bring a few VS news. First and foremost, the 747 service from ATL-MAN will start on October 29th, 2018 and continues through 2019. In addition, the A340 service from ATL-LHR will end on March 29th next and will be replaced by the A330 series aircraft. Also just in case anyone didn't know, Delta started their ATL-PVG route about a month ago. It was a 777-200LR but not sure if it switched to the A350-900XWB.

Thanks for the update! Looks like the PVG route will remain on the 777-200LR for the time being. On March 1st Delta's ATL-NRT route will change to the 777-200ER featuring the new Delta One suites.

Also, as has been discussed on another thread in this forum, ATL has been stated to be the favorite to receive Delta's new route to Mumbai, India.

Anyone know where to find the busiest o&d domestic markets from ATL? We all know ATL provide connections however there is quite a bit of o&d. To where?

Maybe this got answered in another thread, but I'd guess MCO and LGA are up there, below that LAX DTW and surprisingly SAV could be in the top ten.

That'll be cool. Is BA still sending the 789?

It would be neat to get an update on Qatar and Turkish air loads out of Atlanta.

AKAIK, BA has since returned to using the 772 on the route instead of the 787, but KLM is planning on bringing their 787 into ATL from Oct 28 of this year, so we'll see the 787 in ATL again.

Big news regarding airport expansion. Due to high costs, the planned 1.5 billion Concourse G has been cancelled, and the airport is now looking a southern expansion of gates at Concourse T as a potentially cheaper alternative. Below is the layout of the proposed gate expansion and other projects near the proposed gates.

I like this actually. I'm all for more easy to reach gates in T. I wonder who would end up getting them?

The T expansion is a novel idea and I like it. The main problem is, this does absolutely nothing to solve the problem of a shortage of gates for widebody aircraft. This is a good stopgap solution for the interim but how long can they actually go in the long term without adding G?

Also, I wonder what effect this will have on the efficiency of ATL as it’s main point has always been a parallel gate layout. This would be the second perpendicular section to go against the parallel flow after the mid E gates. But unlike the E gates, these gates might cause longer backups anytime an a/c uses those gates as they are right next to the runway, and this could be an issue when departures are towards the east during rush hour.
