Southwest has exercised 40 737 Max 8 options, citing the GOP's corporate tax cut for the move.

Carrier also deferred 23 Max 7s to 2023-24 from 2019-21.

Just out of curiosity, how many total orders did Boeing and Airbus receive in 2017?

For me it is unclear if this is a 2017 or a 2018 order.

Any order before the totals are announced is most likely still a 2017 order.

Not clear if it willl be a 2017 or 2018 order, but another 15 A320neo to CALC. Just a week after their recent order of 50 aircraft

And this might actually be the 1st 2018 order as it was already reported last week that they would order more this month = 2018.

from the 2017 thread:
A330freak wrote:
And they plan to order more in January

The Group shall purchase 15 additional Airbus A320neo aircraft in January 2018 subject to the fulfillment of certain conditions.

But of course we will only know for sure when Airbus reveals their 2017 totals.

More Chinese orders inbound:

Airbus is in talks to sell 100 or more jetliners to China during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Beijing next week, people familiar with the negotiations said.

Macron plans to visit on January 8-10, accompanied by 50 company executives including planemaking officials from Airbus.

Most likely.

Rumor has it the 40 A350s are included, of which 13 will be distributed to Sichuan Airlines.

According to Reuters it is no order yet.

Chief Executive Tom Enders signed a non-binding agreement with Turkish Airlines on a potential order for 25 A350-900 aircraft, during an official visit by Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan in Paris on Friday.

Heck, the 787 hasn't been firmed up yet either. I'm curious of orders vs. options in this. IIRC the 787 was 10 orders and 30 options?

It is 20+5. 787 LoI/MoU/whatever is 20+20.

If I remember correctly, the agreement that was signed last year had only A320s and A350s, I don't recall any A330s in the mix. I do hope they sign a few A330neos though.

Boom.

Leahy did it again. Interesting that the Sheikh himself signed the order. 20+16 and 41 backlog should bring 6 p.a. to 2027-28. some other replacement and China...we could even be at 9-12 for some of those years.

I‘m really happy. Love the whale.

But, as Scrimbl mentioned in the other thread, it's not yet a firm order. That being said I have no doubt that there will be a firm order for the 20 airframes, just saying...

There used to be a member how always reminded us/me that these threads are for firm orders only (I think it was Kanban...)...

Yes, but it is not yet a "firm" order, this is from Airbus' press release:

Dubai-based Emirates Airline has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to acquire up to 36 additional A380 aircraft.

But today is not the day for nitpicking. As an aviation enthusiast it's time to be glad that the production can continue..

Emirates release says it is an 'MOU for 20 firm orders and 16 options', whatever that means. The doublespeak gets worse!

Airbus probably needs the mou in hand to give the guarantee from the board that EK wants. There is also the matter of the engine makers formally getting approvals from their boards for whatever EK is asking. This deal will become firm but it will take time.

It means that EK have agreed to order 20 now and will possibly add another 16 at an already agreed price later, but they still have to agree some final details before a firm contract can be signed.

I really don't understand why some of us feel the need to dismiss MoUs, LOIs or commitments as "not an order". According to the data I have available, far fewer MoUs etc. fail to be turned into firm contracts than firm contracts get cancelled. The percentage is so small as to be negligible.

I was about to write the same. Most MoUs/LOIs/whatever turn into firm order anyway.

With all the double, or even triple announcements it's always good to know the exact status of the order.

In this case it's actually good that they announced this MoU with a breakdown between the part that will be firm and the part that will be options. It's less confusing and creates less discussing then 1st announcing an order for 36 A380s and then just firm up 20, like for example what happened with the Lufthansa 777X order.

Totally agreed. We will see an EK order for 20 A380s in Airbus' books not yet at the end of this month, but later this year. Same as EK's order for 40x 787-10.

The only MoU I seriously doubt currently is MH's for the 787. First delivery reportedly should be in 2019, so if it isn't firmed the first half of this year I don't think it ever will.

That is Boeing. ( or what the press inflates out of a Boeing announcement.)

afair the comensurate A350 order was split into orders and options while the 777X order was a big gob of "orders"

The source of these claims has been Lufthansa, not Boeing

Lufthansa's supervisory board approved an order of 34 777X on 19 September 2003 with an additional 30 options / purchase rights.
http://aviationweek.com/commercial-avia ... d-a350-900

Lufthansa's official fleet documents have also listed 34 777X on order.

Consensus is that of those 34 frames, Lufthansa has "paid" for only 20 by moving their deposits on 20 747-8 purchase rights, which is why Boeing currently only shows 20 frames on order for LH.
