Low empty weight, low noise, no direct competition, proven performance and a large replacement market seem the ingredients.

Airbus has the people who know how to fix the production issues. I agree on 10-15 per month within a few years.

It has been a fine year for sales, but I hope for more. Known open campaigns:
Spirit
Kenya

I'm sure there are more and I hope we hear about them soon.
Airbus won't be able to really impact production before late 2019. Time lags in the industry are really long.
Airbus is negotiating down component prices too. That will enable more sales via pricing.

As to no direct competition, for the A220-100, I consider the E2-195 a fine competitor Most sales campaigns seem to be A220-300 vs. E2-195 though...

For replacement, I believe most markets are growing enough that upgauging will take many of the orders.

Onto the WN discussion:
Southwest's computer system and processes are so focused on one type they are, in my opinion, the least efficient airline for bringing in a 2nd type. So they will be an outlier. Eventually they will feel the competition from DL, B6, Moxie, and (probably) NK and have to decide if they need a lower cost per flight aircraft for small markets. The -7 will require significantly more revenue to pay for each flight. I'm sure WN will do well with it, but there is a reason the above list of 4 US based competitors chose the A220.

And I expect UA and AA to bid the E2 vs. A220 too. The US market will be transformed by the A220. I'm very much looking forward to TCON flights on the A220. Please SoCal to Florida, PLEASE! :)

Any idea when DL will take delivery of its first A 220 and is the first one painted in DL colors yet? I read it powered up on the 20th but not sure at what point they go to the paint shop. Can’t wait to see first one. Thanks in advance for your comments.

I see that the 10 Airbus C220-100 ordered by ODYSSEY AIRLINES LTD are still listed as live orders.

Have not seen any sign that this 'paper airline' is going to start flying from London City Airport or if it will ever get off the ground,
The website is not a lot of help www.flyody.com

Anyone heard any recent updates? Seems strange it is still listed as a live order.

Any news about the A220-300 SN 55017?

In the wonderful production status google sheet provided on this thread, it's refered as "Potentially first A220 business jet".

Found a link on AirBaltic A220 operations:
14,000+ cycles
37,800+ hours (2.7 hours per cycle, much more than I expected)

11 in fleet, 3 more due in 2018:

http://www.baltic-course.com/eng/good_f ... doc=142697

Nice that they topped off their order.

I was thinking JetBlue might be delaying their first delivery to ensure fleet leaders stay 18+ months ahead of their A220-300 to prevent being the discoverer of issues like the wing spar cracking on the E-190s.

There is a high cost with opoerating the fleet leaders. IIRC JetBlue starts delivery in 2022. That means the first AirBaltic CS400/A220-300 will have been through a full maintenance cycle and initial issues will have design fixes.

55035 had first flight 2 days ago, so thats 2 that have made FF in late August and have not been delivered yet. They have hit 3 deliveries a month for the last 4 months, and have generally been back loaded each year with regard to deliveries....so hopefully they not only maintain 3/month but exceed it in Nov/Dec. I'm still hoping for 30-32 deliveries for CY2018.

Keep the thread on topic. Despite requests by multiple users about keeping the thread on topic some have simply disrespected the requests of others and continued with a discussion not relevant to this topic. If you wish to discuss things not related to Production and Delivery of the A220 take it elsewhere, either in a relevant thread or start a new one.

Keep in mind the entire province of Quebec shuts down for three weeks in July / August, including the BBD plants. So the July / August production numbers are always low.

According to an internal release DL currently has 10 A220's on the production line. First one should be in DL Livery Mid-September. First delivery expected end of October. First Pilot training class starts September 7, 2018.

I live here and I think you are confusing with construction labor that gets mandatory holidays. It has nothing to do with other economy sectors such as airplane manufacturing. Obviously with school being over families will take more vacation time in July/August than in June / September, but we're still very far from a 'complete 3 weeks shutdown throughout Quebec'

There are now 3 back in the kitty (3 that have made first flight but have not yet been delivered).

I also live in Quebec, and while the construction industry goes into shut-down for 2 weeks at the end of July/early August, that does not apply to other industries. Some other industries may do so for the convenience of families, but it isn't mandatory. Of course many people do take holidays in the summer months and things can operate more slowly.

In this instance Quebec is not France where they do indeed shut down massively during the summer. Other than much of the construction industry (maybe the same elsewhere?) Quebec is much like the rest of North America in terms of summer holidays. You take your holidays when you can-preferably during July and/or February. BBD does not shut down.

According to the flight activity list link above 3 A220's were delivered in August and 2 in July. It looks like 3 are ready to go sometime in September so far-maybe more? Production seems to be improving slowly but surely.

you worked in the whole Quebec, all jobs, all industries? Because that's what you wrote, that the entire Quebec is shutting down. I guess you were referring to Bombardier? You should have been more precise then.

Sadly, there is about a 30 month lag before Airbus involvement will show process switch. With vendors and a few other things, we should see improvements by next summer (mid-2019, just to be clear).

I believe the consensus is that they will first be used out of JFK/LGA. Primarily on longer routes like LGA-STL. Someone please correct me if I am wrong though.

Nothing official yet. But initial 20 or so were planned for U shaped flying from NYC ->Mid-continentinental->Western Hubs. Anywhere you see large RJs or 717s out of LGA/LAX/SLC/SEA that fly to mid continent destinations (ex. DFW), thats a pretty good bet. But going forward, they will be all over. There are 75 firm, and 50 options. The options will likely get exercised if the jet is as advertised.

I just saw this picture for the first time, and couldn't help but think, "The best looking Airbus plane wasn't even designed by Airbus." That's so nice looking I don't even mind seeing the CSeries in Airbus colors (personal reasons only - nothing against Airbus).

Yes it's a good looker.

The CSeries reminds me a bit of Douglas DC9; good design, but mother company short of resources to to get the foothold.

It is known that Kenya has an active RFP of the A220-300 vs. E2-195.

I'm losing track of active known RFPs. But others are Spirit, United, and. Ugh. :old: one other there was a thread on recently.

There are probably many more not publicly known.

So I assume Airbus/Bombardier is showing the product.

Embraer is flying E2-190s everywhere trying to drum up sales. I would have to imagine every airline is going to bid the two off against each other.

The reality is, both need far higher production rates to bring down per unit costs. Every doubling allows more automation or redesign for manufacturing which reduces costs about 13% per doubling. e.g., 50 per year is 87% of the cost per plane of 25 per year...

Now some parts are on different curves than others as they use commonality with other airframes to cut costs. So perhaps not a full 13% per double, but better than 10%.

Funny, no C-FOVP listed in the C-registry at present nor applied to an A220/CS at any point in the record. But plenty of photos out there of an A220-300/CS300 wearing Korean Air paint with OVP reg stickered on.

Lightsaber

Its just a data error on FR24.
