The second 737-800 has entered Tech Ops Tulsa for the Oasis modification. It’s N980AN (tail 3DN) she’s scheduled to re-enter revenue service on 8/25.

Does anyone know when the used A319’s are supposed to be coming online?

Flight attendants are for the most part qualified on all Airbus narrowbodies and 737.

I’m curious to see what happens each day of those 20-28 days actually. Do they work on the plane all day long? A few hours each day?

Pretty similar yes, for whatever reason (from the photos of the first frame to get re-configured) it doesn’t seem they are switching the side wall panels. The aft galley is also not being touched.

I was scheduled DCA PHX yesterday 7/28 and on 7/27 my boarding pass showed an A321. Saturday morning I got an update stating it was a 757-200. According to the pilot it was one of the PHX HNL planes. I have no idea why the switch was made but having no WiFi or streaming entertainment was not good.

I bet your right because because the outbound leg from PHX was supposed to be the A 321 and was a turn PHX DCA PHX One of the FA's mentioned she picked up this trip last minute.

AFAIK...I believe all LAA FA's are trained on all LAA equipment and can request to be trained on the A330's & the 190's prior to integration. I believe all LUS FA's are currently being trained on the 737 and will be trained on the 787 & 777 in the near future, if they haven't already requested training. Eventually all FA's will be trained on all of AA's equipment. I don't think that anymore FA's will be trained on the MD80's.

I can't tell you where I heard this, because I don't remember where. I think it may have been in some FA's YouTube video.

I don't think so either, they'll be gone by the Fall of 2019, a year from now. And I don't think either that American will conduct any FA training on the ex-US 757s based out of PHX because those are also slated for retirement next year, if not next year 2020. The 24 remaining 767s are slated for retirement within the next 4 years, 2023 at the latest they'll all be gone, so I don't think they'll conduct anymore FA training on those as of now, maybe this year still but next year not anymore. I do think that they will still conduct FA training ont he LAA International 757s because those still have several more years left in the fleet, I don't know how many years but more than 4. No word on the retirement of the remaining 24 LAA 757s has been stated AFAIK.

Speaking of the LAA 757s, it would be nice if they reschedule them on the JFK-CDG route 2x daily once the 763 leaves. Customers may not like the idea of flying a narrowbody across the pond, they could choose Air France instead, but what they might like is the increase in flexibility: going back to 2x daily in each direction. I would really like that: see the 757 coming back on the JFK-CDG route.

I'm not talking about pilots because if they are qualified to fly the 757, they can fly the 767 without an additional type rating.

I sat next to an AA MD pilot yesterday BDL DCA and he said he is transitioning to the 320 family but AA keeps pushing his training back to stay on the MD 80. He said he really doesn't mind as he loves the Mad Dogs. BTW he is in his early 40's so he has a few years left on his career.

Pretty sure AA can convert or wxercise options on the 321neo order to LR or other rumored variants, which is probably most likely replacement for 757s. My guess is they also evaluate 797 for it if launched by boeing. 75Ls dont need immediate replacement so worth waiting to see the options. My money would be on LR though.

Usually only a day at the training center in Dallas. Most of the day is classroom training followed by evacuation drills and door operation training.

So as part of their quarterly earnings, AA updated the fleet plan(linked below). With the CRJ-900 and E-175 orders, the American Eagle fleet plan shows 607 planes at the end of 2019.

I thought that due to the scope clause that the American Eagle fleet could not exceed 75% of the mainline narrow body fleet. If I calculated the narrow body fleet correctly, then AA will have 799 narrow bodies at the end of 2019 which would allow for only 600 planes in the American Eagle fleet.

Interestingly the E-145 count is unchanged even though the TSA flying will end in 2019. Are those E-145s going from TSA to Envoy in 2019?

Yes the AX 145s will go back to Envoy.

My recollection of the scope clause is that the overall figure is 65% of total fleet (which would allow 617 RJs) and 40% of narrowbodies determines the number of large RJs (which would allow 319, with 306 planned assuming all the Skywest reconfigs are done in time).

For some reason, I think that is wrong. I recall only one item being tied to the narrowbody fleet count; not both.

That’s a poor implementation then. The movies are stored on the plane, so you should be able to stream a movie without having internet to the ground. You’ll just have WiFi to the airplane’s network which includes the media server.

DFW-PIT still has one, but it's switching to a 32B next month according to AA's schedule.

DFW-IAD and DFW-BWI as far as I know. DCA doesn't see the MD-80 anymore. No more DFW-NYC area, no more DFW-BOS , no more DFW-West Coast and no more ORD-West Coast flight on the MD-80.

Yes you are right. Only three flights out of ORD on the MD-80: RDU, STL and I believe MSP. I'm surprised that ORD-DFW which was mostly MD-80 18-20x daily for 25 years or so (with the exception of one MD-11 and later on one 77E) already stopped seeing it. I would have expected ORD-DFW to be the last MD-80 flight out of ORD.

I think BWI may have gone to a 738. Or at least BWI was all 738/320/319/321/E145 back in early June. I know from waiting for a delayed inbound and no AC to hang out in.

Why would they not train flight attendants on a plane they currently fly? Are they just going to not crew an MD80 if one has to sub in for something else?

New flight attendants are likely low on the seniority list, so they might be called up to fly anything, including an MD-80

MIA-DEN has scheduled 7M8 service now and they will sub 738 flights as needed with 7M8’s from time to time. Both of those were unscheduled substitutions.

Yesterday, I saw DFW-DCA on a 7M8 as we were waiting to leave for ORD. I had never seen it in person.

when will the oldest s80 aircraft be retired? Some newer TWA s80 are already gone, so they are not retiring them in order of age.

They are normally retired that have the highest cycles and hours so they don’t put them through the big heavy check/ overhaul.

The 9 remaining MD82's that were originally delivered to AA in the mid 80's though early 90's (the oldest aircraft left in the fleet) as well as N967TW that was inherited from TWA are all scheduled to retire on 8.21. The oldest S80 is 424 that was delivered in 1986, with 425 and 426 not far behind. The "newest" MD82 is 555, delivered in 1991.
