China Southern & Kuwait Airways 77W's collide on the ground at JFK

Sat Jan 06, 2018 1:55 pm

I thought this should warrant a separate thread to the thread on the weather event around the NE of the US

A China Southern 77W and Kuwait Airways 77W have collided on the ground at JFK and both aircraft has sustained damage

Two passenger jets collided at John F. Kennedy Airport early Saturday, officials said.
The right wing of a China Southern plane hit the tail of a Kuwait airliner, damaging both aircrafts, the Port Authority said. No one was injured and all the passengers got off safely, according to the Port Authority, which manages all three NYC-area airports.

Jeez not again.
Why is flying so expensive? And why is flying well so much more?

A 2nd Kuwait Airways 777 out of action in JFK! Yikes.

The damage on the wing of the CZ plane doesn't look that bad. As for the Kuwait tail...ouch.

Does anyone know if this was 9K-AOC for KU that was involved? Got to see it Thursday night when it diverted to YOW.

Does any one know if this aircraft is still in JFK or is it flying again?

I tried tracking it on Flight Radar but it has no recent flight history, maybe it has flown and is now in a regular check and hasn't moved in the last 7 days but flight Aware has it still in JFK, and Flight Radar 24 has nothing in the last 7 days.

The aircraft 9K-AOC, is still in the hanger at JFK. The impact severely damaged the APU and tail cone which needed to be completely repaired, I believe this work is almost completed. The tail cone was replaced entirely and currently still needs to be painted as well.

The repair to the KU 77W was completed yesterday and the A/C should return to service shortly.

Kuwait Airways B777-300ER 9K-AOC underwent a short test flight today 30 April.
This aircraft should shortly be ready to return to service with Kuwait Airways following repairs.

He was not, as he retired on September 1st, 2017, three months before this incident occurred.
