El Al 747-400 JFK-TLV Diverts to Goose Bay

Sun Jan 14, 2018 2:14 pm

Apparently an overnight flight El Al 008 a 747-400 diverted to Goose Bay after a problem with one of its wheels.

I am attaching two articles from the Israeli newspapers.

Apparently the passengers and crew are still on the plane which is on the tarmac.

Unfortunately with the bad winter weather now it is not a tourist spot by choice.

Diverted to Goose Bay due to fire indication in its main gear, pax still on boardas no customs availalbe in YYR to disembark. a rescue plane (4XELC LY1008) will ferry up from JFK to take the stranded pax back to TLV while 4XELA will ferry to JFK to operate the delay JFK-TLV flight

YYR Goose Bay is an entry airport with CBSA staffed, perhaps no one available at that time of night. Do we know how long the ferry flight took to rescue the pax / how long the pax had to remain on the plane?

Goose Bay has a small attractive terminal geared to handle the Q400s and CRJs it usually receives....just not a 747 load of passengers.

I feel bad for the passengers who had to walk between the planes. The sun even made it look warmer than the weather folks say it was.

Good question. I understand Goose Bay airport is military, so I suppose security would be covered, in this case.
