Really looking forward to seeing JAL re-enter the freighter market once again. Granted its going to be on a ACMI basis. Overall, its a strong growth indicator for surplus uplift as the demand into Japan will continue for the next olympics.

Okay, that's a start... but how about they grab a couple used 744F's and start their own operation!!
I'd much prefer that!
I think there are still plenty of 747-446BDSF/BCFs out there, or they could always go grab JA401J or JA402J... One is with Asiana, the other with CargoLogicair....

May be they even could grab some unused 748Fs? SV seemed to have grounded theirs:

As per the article, JAL is facing a pilot shortage and there are not enough pilots to supplement a freighter fleet at the moment. Hopefully things will change as we get closer to 2020.
Any guesses on what JAL would operate for their freighter fleet? Mine would be A330F or a converted 767F. I do not see JAL as the type to go out and buy as many 777F or 748F as possible.

I can see JAL going the 744/748 route though for cargo.
