Is it A359 morning and afternoon with B788 in the evening?

In any event it is an extraordinary increase in capacity in the circumstances.

In addition, Easyjet will base 5 more aircraft at Manchester. 2 will be added this winter, and a further 3 next summer, making 17 based in total. Volos will be one of the new summer routes,

I think those adverts are just internet history based. Adverts that target recent google searches to appeal to you.

Seems to be a quiet week this week. Guess we have been spoilt with lots of positive announcements recently.

One observation from me after flying MAN-MCT-DXB - Oman Air must be holding on to some passengers as O&D instead of nearly 100% transit, because if you are going east QR and EK are still streets ahead. And prices have been comparable recently, too.

It would depend on MAN facilitating the transfer process. The worldwide by Easyjet product is actually a LGW product, and thus bookings are protected by LGW rather than Easyjet.

I can see it coming in time, especially with the growth of the Easyjet operation at MAN, Also bounded by the fact MAN does have a transfer facility and also Thomas Cook (MAN also being their biggest base) and being a partner for worldwide at LGW

Thomas Cook long haul changes for Summer 2019.

LAX goes 2 weekly and starts one month later. (Affect of VS starting the route on the exact same days at TCX)
BOS appears to have been cut (again VS increased flights)
JFK goes from 7 to 8 weekly with 2 flights on Mondays
CUN goes from 6 weekly to 9 weekly
MCO goes from 9 weekly to 13 weekly, with 3 flights on Sundays
SEA goes from 2 weekly to 3 weekly
MBJ resumed as a 1 weekly flight
SFO has days of operation changed but remains 3 weekly

Interesting about BOS. I’m flying that route in August. I’m guessing G-VYGM won’t be flying for MT next year.

As mentioned there is a new route to Montego Bay (technically a re-introduction) and rumours of 2 new routes.

One of The air tanker could be gone (going to Jet2) but there are new aircraft coming Ming in as they confirm MAN will be 8 based long haul as opposed to the 7 of this year. There is room in the based aircraft for the rumoured new routes should they come to pass.

Thanks - I didn't know about the new aircraft. Having a hard time picturing how the fleet is spread out now with these additions and subtractions. Suppose we'll see! Still hoping to see them try a new North American route or two -- TPA, SAN, BWI would all be fun. But they may be too marginal for MT, especially if they're looking to shore up their financials for a (partial) sale of the flying business like some seem to think.

The partial sale of the flying business seems to me to be an opening move in raising capital to both cut debt and begin work on refleeting. DE is getting to the stage where the 763 fleet needs to go, as it both has value as freighter feedstock and is coming to the end of its viability as a passenger fleet.

MT also needs work on its fleet. Some of the A332 date back to Airtours and are getting on in years. MT tends to lease its aircraft, and I've got a sneaking suspicion where the business for both MT and DE needs will be placed. After all, there are lessors with A330NEO orderbooks.....

The potential of TCX getting another investor on board is interesting. As I see it the possible reasons, of which more than one can apply, are (in no particular order):

1 - debt reduction, pure and simple.
2 - disposal of airline business to another owner.
3 - find a new strategic partner.
4 - capital injection for fleet renewal.

Who knows where this will go.

Turning back to Fleet plans, I don't know about the A330 production line, but I'd have thought the Thomas Cook group would prefer second hand A330 or end of line new A330ceo?

Both of you make savvy and sound points, with which I agree with all. (Much more coherent than that MT thread...).

I can't see what other aircraft offers a better fit than the A330, even with the aggressive pricing Boeing has been offering on the 787. It's a lot of plane for MT's bread and butter routes like the Mouse Express.

Re fleet plans for our resident...

The Airtours A330s {that includes some that went to Scandinavia} were on 20 year leases by the look of things. As they come to the end, might MT see the possibility of going like-for-like with their core longhaul fleet and turning over Condor's ageing 767s as one big deal? A batch of 45+ A339NEO on 20 year leases?

There are capital costs involved even if it's just a lease as DE will need money to train and equip. So my feeling is that the part sale is (from your list) mostly 1 and some 4.

This is my first instinct too -- time to clean up the books to raise capital for the fleet.

I am also minded to agree that any sale of a stake in the airline business is intended to address the balance sheet and position the group for fleet renewal.

However, I wonder if seeking a Chinese partner may also be on the agenda? If TCX can find a Chinese domestic carrier to feed long haul flights (this using the UK rights in the bilateral) that might be a particularly profitable tie up (Thomas Cook could sell European holidays to Chinese tourists...).

Regarding the fleet, the A330 family makes perfect sense. The B787 and A350 have too much capability (and cost...) for the overwhelming majority of TCX's current and potential missions at MAN (US East and west coast, India, Far East, South Africa). To me, the A332 or, if they push the boat out, the A338/339 would be a perfect common Fleet for the group - if it is affordable.

We here at MSY have been following MT closely since they appeared on a list of tenants for our new North Terminal which opens February 2019. Do you think there is potential for special announcements for new routes for summer 2019 or does the general summer press release usually cover everything? I also wonder if MSY might make sense as a fall, winter or spring add? Our busiest tourism months are usually October, November, March, and April (sometimes Feb, depending on Mardi Gras) and we have no low cost service to Europe during those months.

I was on Oman Air flight arriving from MCT yesterday. The load in economy class was pretty poor, less than half from what I observed, but the new B787-9 was nice and better than the older A330. I wonder why their load was so low even in the August summer month, hope they can sustain the route.

Traditionally summer is a low time for the Middle east, due to the high temperatures out there at this time of year.

I believe there are spaces for an 8 x A330 fleet to operate a number of other routes. However, this may be European short haul flying in peak season.

I also understand that 9 x A330s are required on a Monday. If that is accurate, there are even more spaces for long haul rotations.

MSY and BWI have been mooted as potential new routes, MSY on the same basis you say above (they are a tennant in the new terminal - which looks pretty good BTW).

MAN-MSY would be a fantastic, niche, route for TCX who may feel they can replicate the success of SEA. I'd not rule it out, but don't expect anything more than a 2-3x weekly seasonal route (I have no idea when a good season would be for inbound tourists to MSY!).

Slight increase to the initial MAN-BOM frequency by Jet. I believe the plan is to be daily by March 2019, but this is a positive step nevertheless.

----------------

Jet Airways in this past week’s schedule update filed additional frequency for its planned Mumbai – Manchester route, set to commence on 05NOV18, subject to Government Approval. The airline currently displays 5 weekly flights, instead of 4, with extra flight added on Fridays, with Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

9W130 BOM0230 – 0755MAN 332 x23
9W129 MAN0935 – 0040+1BOM 332 x23

For O&D traffic this would be a solid explanation. However, Oman want to drive their own tourism and connecting passengers, so the light load could potentially be a slight concern.

I flew them on the A332 before the 789 came in and wasn’t that impressed, especially when you’ve got EK and QR offering similar prices and times ex-MAN.

IMO Oman needs to get new routes open that MAN passengers want to visit, and then go in hard with launch pricing to get traction.

They offer over 10 destinations in India now, which is fine and if that’s the market they want to target, carry on. But if you want to steal passengers from ME3 (let’s be honest, it’s all stealing with minimal incremental), then you’ve got to beat them at their own game.

I admire Oman for serving MAN and always welcome new routes, but there’s a a few things to iron out in the medium term, based on my limited knowledge.

It's actually a little early for a lot of carriers who will announce Summer 19 plans around November. A launch of a new route like MSY could come at any time.

I see it being a double header too with LGW offered. A lot will depend on TCX getting the holiday side up to speed on the route. with hotels and other stuff like car hire. The leisure market in the UK is in one of its more sophisticated phases with new destinations

MT will only have 1 A330 based at LGW which is already fully utilised for S19.

I don’t see MT expanding much TATL at LGW, seems to be the MAN focus for that one. Just doesn’t fit in with what DE/MT have been developing.

MT could use an A330 on a W-Pattern from Manchester though MAN-MSY-LGW-MSY-MAN though it would be unlikely given the frequencies involved (unless it was to meet up with cruise ships or something which would cater for 8/9/10 day cruises to match up with an uneven flight pattern).

Regarding the MT A330s which came from Airtours, It was my understanding that the lease terms were not particularly favorable when new though I'd be almost positive that they would have tried to renegotiate it at some point either before or after the merger.
