there is some talk around Vancouver Airport that Air Canada is looking at YVR-BKK and YVR-SIN flights? It would be a nice addition but hard to believe there is enough high yielding traffic to support either. I also noticed Canada and Thailand updated the air agreement give an airline from Thailand access to Vancouver.
I am curious to why the agreement had been updated when Thai is not interested in Vancouver but looking at service to Seattle?
Any thoughts/

I don't think Air Canada mainline would do so well on YVR-BKK. Better leave it to Air Canada Rouge.
SQ actually served YVR for a while (I think it was via ICN) but the route was cut a while back, I forget the year however. I would assume there is an market between the cities. Air Canada using the 787-9 on an daily YVR-SIN would do well it seems.
CPA62 wrote:Is CANADA and UAE in the process of re-negotiating the current bi-lateral. Apparantly Emirates is opening an office in Vancouver? At least that is the talk and they will open service to Vancouver. I think the rumour is not real, maybe to do with Dnata setting up shop in Vancouver and some confusion. But just thought i would check if anybody knows anything about this.
CPA62 wrote:The talk is Turkish will start service in the winter spring 2019, not 2018. this is from the Turkish GSA. Also indicated if they are given daily flights to YVR they will not start Seattle for a little while. Turkish will surely not get daily flights into YVR.

I believe KIX is going to mainline soon? Can anyone confirm?

I can't help but think back to a few years ago when AC abruptly cancelled their service between YVR and SAN - in Fall 2012 -- and the route remained totally unserved for several years! In June of 2016, the route magically reappeared and has been expanding ever since! I never did find an explanation for what happened to a market that obviously has traffic! (WS also serves the market seasonally now.)
I look forward to continued growth between our two cities' airports. I expect one of these days, AC mainline (rouge?) might reappear in the market. I also wonder if a U.S. carrier such as AS or WN might eventually enter the market as well?
I note that our two airports are even similar now in annual pax served, with SAN hitting over 22M in 2017! Lots of similarities between our 2 beautiful west coast cities!

TK just announced for a firm order or 25 B787-9 and 25 A350. I will expect the B787 to be utilized to YVR once it starts joining the fleet in 2019.

Interesting. IST-MEX can be flown non stop, no problem. They need a stop over on the eastbound leg, due to MEX's elevation. YUL or YYZ are ideal stop over points for them, as both are pretty much on the great circle route between IST and MEX.

Considering TK hasn't announced EWR, DFW, SEA or YVR, and summer 2018 is pretty much here, guess that means ankaraflyjet is full of hot air. Not to say some of these routes won't be announced at a later date.
