Alitalia, Aerolineas Argentinas announce Joint Business Agreement (JBA)

Yesterday in Buenos Aires AR and AZ announced plans to enter a joint business agreement on flights between Argentina and Italy.
The deals are subject to regulatory approval and once approved it will allow the airlines to cooperate on scheduling, marketing and other business functions.

Are all flight between Buenos Aires and Italy going to be on Alitalia only ?

As mentioned above, both carriers are struggling, especially Alitalia which certainly has an uncertain future at this point in time.

It makes sense to try and create some strength, but it’s a drop in the ocean really when it comes to the challenges ahead for both carriers.

Hope these two airlines can survive... it would be a pity to loose such great liveries.

Where do you get that from???? Each airline operates a daily non stop on the EZE-FCO route, code shared. This would take the agreement a step further, stepping into metal-neutral territory.

The one thing that brings them together is that they got a common competitor: Norwegian. Alitalia is clearly struggling because of the heavy competition from LCCs and Aerolinas Argentinas is afraid of what Norwegian will do to their business position.

This comes so late unfortunately, though solidifies the SkyTeam dominance on the route. Had the airlines woken up a while ago, this would’ve been more interesting. Now it’s more like an extension of life support.
