AA 738 Routes from CLT

Mon Feb 05, 2018 4:28 pm

I have noticed recently that AA has more 738's flying out of Charlotte recently. Does anyone have a list of routes they currently fly the 738 to from CLT? Here is what I have seen:

JFK, EWR, DFW, ORD, MIA, BOS, MSP, BWI, IAH, AUS, IND, RDU, FLL, PBI, MCI, SAT, TUL, DCA, LAS

Any I missed or starting soon?

CLT-PIT starts getting one in March based off of a dummy booking I made on AA's site.

When will the cross fleeting begin officially? Does AA have an 737 pilot base at CLT?

Not only is AA flying the 738 from JFK-CLT, but the 757 as well.

No new pilot bases have opened yet. Real cross-fleeting won't start until the flight attendant integration finishes, but assuming it will work like the other mergers there will start being alot more LAA planes in LUS hubs and the opposite just operating as turns or thrus.

MEM is mostly A319 on the CLT route, but we've seen an occasional 737 in the last few weeks.

BUF is also going to see the 738. First time an AA 738 will be scheduled.

This is one of my most regular routes...the 757 is a real boon now that they (well except the ones based at PHX that never comes this way) are all B/E Diamond equipped in F! The novelty of a flat bed on a 1hr flight doesn't get old {biggrin} It's almost always on the AA1608 that is the last flight of the day back to JFK so a nice relax on the Friday night after a long work week...

A321s are also pretty common.

What is actually going on with the F/A integration? What are the remaining steps and when is it expected to be complete?

AA is putting LAA 738's in CLT to replace many of the LUS A321's that have moved to DFW.

JFK, DFW, ORD, and MIA were all AA hubs prior to the AA-US merger, and it is not unusual for AA to be operating 737-800 planes to these AA hub airports from CLT.

Prior to the merger ORD was Eagle along with MIA, and I can’t say for sure but I don’t think JFK even existed for AA to/from CLT and even if it was it mostl likely was Eagle. IIRC DFW was the only mainline route for AA out of CLT and it was operated with the Super 80. So no, prior to the merger the AA 738 was not a regular sight.

Really it’s just some computer systems (mainly our bidding and scheduling systems but also our payroll systems). October of this year is the “go-live” date for Full Operational Integration (FOI). At FOI LAA and LUS flight attendants can work together, work each other’s metal, and transfer between our respective bases. It will also start the switch of LAA bases from line bidding to the Preferential Bidding System.

I’d expect to see PVD as well. The 734 was a mainstay on that route for a long time. And plenty of 321 as well

Incorrect. AA flew the 737 to BUF as early as February of 2000. In fact, BUF was among the first markets to see the AA 737. At that time, given the relative paucity of low-fare competition in the market, AA was actually flying 5-6 daily mainline flights BUF-ORD with a mix, depending on season and year, of MD80, F100 and 737. In addition, given BUF's relative proximity to ORD and thus the relatively short stage lengths, BUF was likely an attractive place for AA to fly the 737 early on as turns could be easily scheduled in between other, longer missions in and out of ORD.

The 738 but not the 737. AA first flew the 737 when they purchased AirCal in 1987 and most of them were obviously flown within California.

Seriously? I'd guess he actually meant to say "737", as that is what THAT airplane is called. A Boeing 737. All of this use of codes, 731, 732, 73H, 73Z, 7P8, 7BS, blah blah blah. They are all Boeing 737s.
I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

I also see the 738 is doing CLT-TUL, likely due to the maintenance base there. I thought that was a new route post-merger, too. Nice to see mainline at any rate.

Anyone know if AA has purposely put only non-IFE 738s through Charlotte? I have yet to have one and I’ve flown Maybe 5 or 6 segments so far...

Thanks for the response but now you peaked my interest in another point. What is the difference between line bidding to the Preferential Bidding System? I'll hush after this one. :tapedshut:

I know a lot of people on here have talked about them opening a 737 pilot base at PHX, I'm assuming as well that won't happen until everything is fully integrated. However it's finally nice to see a nice mixture of Airbus and Boeing on the north concourse's as opposed to practically all Airbus. I wonder if PHX or CLT see's more 738's at the current moment, my guess is PHX?

Line bidding is where you bid for a line that contains a whole months worth of trips that are built together by the company. Usually five or six trips spread over the month. With PBS you tell the computer what parameters you want (layover cities, equipment type, number of days in a trip, etc) and it will build you a line out of all the available based off of what you prefer in seniority order.

My guess would be PHX. From my understanding the 737 is approaching or has exceeded 30% of the flying from PHX whereas in CLT you still see many more Airbuses than 737s.
