Which is correct: the date in the thread title or the date in the first post?

What does that mean for Hilton Head Island?

No more scheduled service unless someone else picks it up.

Sad day. I loved flying the Dash.

Hilton Head Island is extending the runway. Hopefully they will fly the RJs into there, but it won’t be the same without the Dash 8s! They are iconic at HHI!

I just checked American's schedule online. They're still showing Dash 8 ops at least until into January 2019, unless the publicly available schedule has yet to be updated.

I believe the last day of revenue operations is July 3, with the ferry flights out of base on July 4.

It means that they will have to drive 45 minutes to SAV. Much of the world would love to be only 45 mins from an airport so I hope we don't hear any whining from them.

AA only 'locks' their schedule about 3-4 months out. Anything beyond that is the placeholder schedule and can (will) change.

No sorrow on my end. Have flown many dozens of Dash flights and I will take an RJ any time. The Dash's have had their day and most of my cancelled or delayed flights were Dash's,familiar announcement, "this flight is delayed or cancelled due to mechanical issues". That along with weight restrictions made travel rough.

A -300 is likely the only 50 seat aircraft you'll never have a weight restriction on.

Agreed on the mechanicals. They were tired when I left in '08.

They are weight restricted out of HHH, but then again they have a 4300 foot runway.

True.

I flew one with 50 pax, max bags, two alternates and a jumpseater up front and still had a few hundred pounds to play with. HXD is a different story though.

They aren't gonna pull the plane in the middle of the busiest season of the year... Think Sept Oct something along those lines

All this concern about Hilton Head .. like its out in the middle of the ocean somewhere and millions of people will be stranded without the lifeline of the Piedmont Dash 8s keeping them all connected to civilization.

People .. SAV is right up the road ... this hard-on and hysteria over HHH ... chill out!

I was non-reving from CLT to ROA on a 300. I got a jump seat in the cockpit and the captain told the ramp agent they had to leave 10-15 bags or so behind.

Wouldn't the CRJ700 be a better fit for HHH than the -200 because of its superior performance, even on a lengthened runway? There's a lot of golf clubs on those flights.

Even the CRJ700 would be hard pressed operating off a 4300 foot runway with 300 foot displaced thresholds at both ends.

The golf clubs can go in an Uber from SAV

SBY is getting jet service to CLT as a result. E145s already fly to PHL, now they're going to be going to CLT as well.

Did not know Hilton Head had an airport with a cool IATA code like HHH.

However, it does seem that SAV is only a little over 40 mins away!

Still, if Hilton Head is your final destination, HHH is the airport for many.

Yeah if you're trying to get on the island during peak travel season and during rush hour, the convenience of flying into HHH vs SAV is worth it.

The last day of the DH3 into HHH appears to be July 4. From July 5 onward route will be served by Republic E175s.

Is the E175 the best short field performer in AA's regional arsenal?

To add to the last day of service on July 4th, there will also be final Dash flights CLT-ROA as well.
All jet in and out of ROA as of July 5.
