Being reported in the JetBlue thread B6 is starting BOS-ROC January 8. One daily EMB190.

This is true according to JetBlue.com, and a MAJOR sigh of relief. No matter what, new markets are always beneficial. SYR-JFK dropped to twice daily once BOS was added, but market diversification is worthwhile, even if it’s not technically an increase in daily departures.

Also, in other news names have been revealed for the new ROC restaurants. Construction is coming along for both of them, although it looks like the new central exit point will have to finish and open before construction can be completed on the diner and bar, because they will fill in the closed off space from the old rotunda concourse exit points (I’ll try and grab photos in the morning to provide a visual.)

Not only was the list of cities ending wrong, but it wasn’t even close. Congrats ROC!

Let's hope this is true. Maybe politics or maybe the face that Jetblue is NY's Hometown airline saved ROC and or SYR. If ROC is saved could the impossible happen and there be an expansion in ROC like the addition of BOS and or FLL?

Excited to announce on this thread that ROC has finally acquired B6 BOS service starting in january. I have mixed emotions on this as I am really excited to have B6 finally serve my hometown of BOS from ROC. However sadly I graduate RIT two weeks before the service starts...

It seems like I didn't go to the next page, y'all beat me to it!

Interestingly enough this comes as AC heads out of ROC, where it currently occupies the gate next to B6's. Will we see a 2nd B6 Gate at ROC?

I created a dumy search on jetblue.com using departure date of 1/9, and return 1/10.

B6712 on 1/9/19 for $64
departs ROC 9:50am
arriving BOS 11:17am

B6713 on 1/10/19 for $64
departs BOS 2:30pm
arriving ROC 4:06pm

Round trip price $126.36 using the Blue Fare option

Looks like B6 will have two planes in at the same time twice daily at ROC.

Times are for when planes are departing or arriving ROC:

B6 185 ROC-JFK 5:30am

B6 286 JFK-ROC 9:15am

B6 485 ROC-JFK 9:50am
B6 712 ROC-BOS 9:50am

B6 586 JFK-ROC 4:00pm
B6 713 BOS-ROC 4:06pm

B6 685 ROC-JFK 4:38pm

B6 486 JFK-ROC 12:10am+1

What gets me is where is that BOS bound plane originally coming from to do B6 712? Is there a future annoucement from B6 coming for even more service to ROC? Maybe it's really twice daily to BOS? It could also be that they are repositioning that second JFK flight to go to BOS instead since the times are dead on.

Good to see BOS-ROC added. A dummy booking for November shows 3x daily ERJ-140 on ROC-BOS. I wonder if AA will be able to keep up with JetBlue on the route, given the connections (and likely ongoing lower fares) B6 would offer. I hope both carriers stay. If AA leaves the route, I would guess B6 goes up to two daily.

I agree with you. However AA's strategy in BOS has shown moved with them cutting almost all non hub flying, so wouldn't be surprised if we see them reduce service/remove the route. Also AA is running this service with one more frequency then it has in past years which is quite interesting.

I suspect the schedule has not been fully updated yet. I think you will see the JFK flights at the same time as BOS get removed from the schedule. The plane will go JFK-ROC-BOS and vv.

I think AA will still have the advantage for business travellers. One flight per day is basically useless. If B6 ever goes 2x daily then AA should be worried.

These comments made me nervous. I am a flight attendant with JetBlue who commutes out of ROC multiple times a week to JFK to get to base. As ROC was one of the original Blue Cities with many B6 inflight and flight crewmembers residing there, it'd be a hard blow to us.

AND...it looks like we're fine, with the 3-4 flights to JFK...with the addition of BOS in January, FINALLY! I don't think B6 is giving up on ROC. It'd be wonderful to see FLL or MCO, but I'll take BOS for now.

AA has 2x ROC - BOS and 1daily SYR which is at a horrible time and is always delayed. I’m surprised they haven’t dropped these routes yet as AA doesn’t have much connecting traffic (other than to their hubs) out of BOS and their only non-hub routes are SYR, ROC, and MDT . They have to be doing poorly since B6 started SYR-BOS. I suspect that after B6 begins ROC-BOS AA will drop to 1daily or drop it all together.

Back in 2008-2009 AA operated SYR-DFW and B6 SYR-FLL and they both dropped in 2009 due to fuel prices and low gate space. Since then B6 has restarted SYR-FLL , any chance in seeing SYR-DFW restart with a E175?
History of SYR-DFW:
Back in 2008/09 AA didn’t operate and aircraft large enough to fly the route with a full payload, their largest plane at the time (without going to mainline) was the E145 and it took severe payload restrictions (only fill 30ish of the seats). That meant each passenger was paying a lot more than if the plane was full. Now that they have a plane that can fly it at full capacity (or very close it it) which is the E175, do you see the route starting back up again?

Thoughts?

BOS-ROC for AA is 3x right now. However yes when JetBlue enters AA will likely have a hard time while flying high-cost ERJ-140's.

Regarding DFW. I'm not sure about SYR but I believe BUF and ROC were operated with a CRJ700. Now that BUF is restarting, ROC and SYR would be prime additions with the EMB175 this time around

For SYR-DFW, maybe it was on the CRJ700, all I know is it took massive payload hits. Your right in saying that now that DFW-BUF is being served, SYR/ROC look more favorable.

A couple of years ago Delta served SYR-SLC as a one-off a couple of times, hopefully when they get the C-series (A220) they will think of starting it as a scheduled route.

For as far BOS is concerned the times aren't too bade when you consider that B6 has an early mourning one w/ AA being an evening flight. The B6 one is better suited for connections while AA's is more PTP. Interestingly enough during the winter w/ the seasonal FLL flight B6 overnights 3 planes in SYR (BOS, FLL and MCO) while the 2 JFK flights don't come till later in the day. The 3rd plane always park at the former NW gate 14 and shares a waiting area w/ the other 2.

Those three flights out of SYR are something interesting. They only have one crew to operate all the flights and they work them one after another. I was on the MCO flight (which is the last of the three to leave), if one of the other flights then the others following will be as they can’t work two gates at once. Departure times (for Feb) are 5:00am - BOS, 6:10am - FLL , and 7:15am - MCO. BOS replaced the early morning JFK departure.

This is great. Does ITH really need 6 gates though? Would be nice to have for diversions I guess.

Airlines dont want a lounge ..... they want incentives. Pitt international airport is notorious for that. Hence how they got all of their international flights,.

Airlines dont want a lounge ..... they want incentives. Pitt international airport is notorious for that. Hence how they got all of their international flights,.

True, but a lounge is basically a requirement if you're going to have international first class.

Why is there always somebody who has to change something that doesn’t need changing.

I would argue, it needs to not be changed. I don't think International confuses people. I don't think many people thing they're going to drive up to ROC and hop on a non stop to HKG, but International in the name gives a scale to the name. People hear that and the think the airport is a certain size and can get them places. Airports with Regional in the name tend to have 2 daily flights to a couple hubs, and that's it. Take International out of the name, and people are going to think that ROC isn't as big of an airport as BUF and SYR, who both have International in the name. If nothing else, gotta keep up with the Jones'

The only reason why ROC is "international" is because they have customs / immigration at the airport. Its not the international flights .... that make an airport international.

BUF and SYR have them too.

ahhh a lounge isnt going to make or break an international airline flying out of Buffalo. There needs to be a demand to fly out of BUF vs flying out of Toronto.

I posted an article yesterday about how the Carbon air tax in Canada is going to increase the price of airline tickets starting Jan 1, 2019.

JUST MAYBE ...... airlines will want to fly to Buffalo and more Canadians will want to fly out of BNIA too due to the price increase. Time will tell.

In fact, Rochester (and Albany and Watertown) are considered international airports (i.e. ports of entry) by federal statute. Buffalo, Syracuse, and any of the New York area airports are Landing Rights Airports, which require advance permission from CBP.

This morning I saw a large yellow bird climbing out of ROC, looked at flight radar and it appears it was an Atlas Air 767 in the DHL livery. It replaced the daily kallita 734 this morning, not sure if this is a permanent change or not.

Andreatta is sort of the Democrat and Chronicle's 'snarky troll' columnist. Talk about a column with no point.

Airports are free to call themselves whatever they want. Rochester at least has the actual federal designation, Air Canada or no Air Canada.

Again, small aircraft are becoming a real problem. Efficient new-generation less-than-50 seat aircraft are needed so that thinner but helpful routes aren't lost. Now lots of Canada will be a double-connect from ROC.

There's a shot of the UA Friend Ship A320 at ROC in either A.net or FlightAware or somewhere. Love hearing that it comes to town. I remember being in elementary school in the 1970's and being excited every time I saw a "new paint job United" (meaning Bass) at the airport. But the Friend Ship Blue Star livery is a classic, and good on UA for doing an A320 in it! I'd love to see UA do retro-jets of all the Continental, People Express, New York Air, Eastern--all the 'components' of the current-day United.

Anyone here who's into 1:400 diecast airliner models knows there's a new 767-200 mould out. I'm hoping they do a banana DHL. I'm trying to get models of every jumbo that has served ROC.

My shot is on Instagram and Twitter under

One thing that I’m pleased to see corrected in this weeks OAG thread is that B6 re-upgraded ROC-JFK back to 3 flights a day from the originally posted 2 after the BOS add. Doesn’t surprise me, a lot of ROC-JFK traffic is local and the route is profitable for B6 (according to stats posted in the JetBlue network thread ROC is the most profitable route from JFK out of all the question stations, I believe those included in the post were ROC, SYR, PWM, and BTV- I’ll try and find the correct link to the data when I’m off my phone but it can be found in that thread.)

Looks like finalized (as of now) schedule for B6 in ROC for April/May is as follows (updated this week from misfiling last week):

B6185 ROC 0545 JFK 0652 E90
B6712 ROC 0947 BOS 1102 E90
B6485 ROC 1440 JFK 1558 E90
B6685 ROC 1725 JFK 1855 E90

B6286 JFK 0747 ROC 0912 E90
B6586 JFK 1236 ROC 1401 E90
B6713 BOS 1519 ROC 1650 E90
B6486 JFK 2250 ROC 0020 (+1) E90

For comparisons sake, here’s SYR on the same date: (5/12/19)

B6840 SYR 0500 BOS 0606 E90
B6655 SYR 0620 MCO 0908 320
B6315 SYR 0906 JFK 1026 E90
B61815 SYR 1859 JFK 2032 E90

B6116 JFK 0719 SYR 0841 E90
B62516 JFK 1700 SYR 1828 E90
B6656 MCO 2049 SYR 1131 320
B6845 BOS 2239 SYR 2350 E90

Overall, the 4 flights per day capacity for ROC is the most solid B6 has been in this market in years. I will say if I had to hope one thing changes, as small as it may be, is that they sub back in the flight 585 number. ROC, SYR, and BUF have for the most part always had area code flight numbers for B6, which I always thought was a really great local touch.

Anyways, just some interesting points I thought I’d bring up on what’s a relatively slow news week.

Great to see!! I may point out again that this month B6 has been operating 4 daily to JFK (2-4 times per week) up from 3 earlier this summer, with the 4th frequency arriving around 6pm ish, and leaving around 9pm ish.
