Early-morning revving of Allegiant Air jet engines sparks complaints from Sanford residents

"Since Nov. 5, the airport has received dozens of complaints from nearby residents about the full-throttle engine noise, as Allegiant Air mechanics fire up the jets following maintenance work. A large number of the protests came in November, when Allegiant mechanics perform most of their maintenance work on the passenger planes."

"Now, Sanford city commissioners are telling airport officials to cease with the early-morning racket."

Does SFB have any kind of noise cerfew and could this wind up making SFB like LGB with a no noise from 2355 - 0600 or something along those lines
Aside from Allegiant and the MD80s which other airlines use SFB with early AM departures

Looking at Google Maps it does not appear they have an engine run-up area. Maybe that is what's needed.

Some airports call for the aircraft to be tugged to the center of the airport for MX engine runs during nighttime hours.

"In a sternly worded letter approved by city commissioners, Mayor Jeff Triplett urges airport President Diane Crews to find money to build a “hush house.”

Is there enough space/land at SFB for G4 to have a "hush house" built, or will the G4 MX staff just move the engine run-ups till after 6:00AM.

Could we see a hard crefew and noise restrictions put inplace from say 23:00-06:00.

Prior to the Airbuses joining the Allegiant fleet, how long were the MD80s flying into and out of SFB and why no complaints back then.

Why do people move near airports and then complain about noise? It's not the airports fault they had no foresight.

I work at a nearby G4 base airport close to SFB. We have a noise curfew between 2300-0700 for high power engine runs. In general any airport has noise complaints. I do wish more people that did the complaining were like the lady in the interview.

I don't think this is a particularly bad case of Nimbyism. The interviewees are perfectly happy with the airport. MD-80s aren't exactly discreet aircraft at that.

I have to say I think it's a pretty reasonable request to just wait until morning.

If engine tests start at 0600, what time would the first flight be.

Allegiant has had a maintenance base at SFB for quite some time. It is somewhat more recently however that they have been occupying more spaces toward the south central part of the airport along Hangar Road. Rather than just having one or two planes there at a time like they used to, it is very common now to see five or six receiving maintenance work at the same time now. Since last year, there have been a lot more residents asking about it and posting noise complaints in local Sanford social groups and community forums. Of course with the retirement of the MD-80 family aircraft scheduled for this year, this matter will likely resolve itself in the coming months.
