Southwest finally arrives at DFW! Ok it was a diversion lol.

Wed Feb 28, 2018 4:29 am

Southwest currently has a plane parked at DFW on Gate D14. It is visible from the South Service Road for you hardcore spotters, but maybe not with all the fog, which is probably why it's here and not at DAL.

They are already fueling it though and not sure how long she will be here.

Ok I have been trying to upload pics but it is way too difficult here. I thought I had it figured out but it tells me the pics are too big. I give up lol. Sorry.

Strange night, DAL had a ground stop for arrivals but DFW was not affected. My wife is on WN from MCO as we speak and was diverted to MSY for an hour or so. Lots of late arrivals.

On the flip side, we knew there was a problem at DFW when we saw AA and others approaching DAL due to DL 191 crash.

That was a nasty Delta Airlines crash! All crashes are nasty, but that particular one was chilling.

OK Southwest has left the building. She pushed back about 2319. The fog is lifting. Short and sweet but fun to see.

Just returned from picking up my wife and took a photo of the arrivals board showing Southwest 6031 from Dallas-DFW! I'll try to post it later.

Semi-related, but apparently a few WN flights to MDW, including WN1640 from PIT, were reportedly diverted to ORD this past Monday.

But, back to the topic at hand, WN6031 might have been the most epic, if not unexpected, 17 minute flight in recent North Texas history:

Pretty sure WN has diverted to DFW in the past when the weather gets bad along with occasional diversions to ORD for weather or mechanical concerns that make MDW unavailable.

Down here in Houston they occasionally fly into IAH for diversions and random charter flights. It's not a daily event but it's not unheard of either.

When did WN quit flying DAL-IAH?

WN closed IAH in 2005 to consolidate all Houston ops at HOU.

I'm looking forward to an eventual WN diversion to JFK!
Of course, for that to happen, there would have to be issues at LGA, EWR and ISP. Not very likely, but one can dream :)

Never say never. With the longest runways of the big 3 (and ISP) and the best spacing between them, I wouldn't be surprised to have this happen one day.

...this has happened many times and will continue to do so. The visibility around Love Field was absolutely nothing last night. I couldn't even see my own car in my parking garage across the street from KDAL.

DAL doesn't have CAT III?
