Hello guys, last week I read an article of Panama's President saying that EK will start flying to PTY in late 2018, and, It may include a tag on BOG. I was waiting until someone start a topic about it, but I decide to created myself. So what are your thoughts about it? Can't EK just do DXB-BOG-PTY-DXB or it is mandatory to do DXB-PTY-BOG-PTY-DXB?. An the other question is, it is possible with the current EK fleet make BOG-DXB non stop (high altitude issue here)?

EK has a solid enough track record that I fully expect that if they say they'll do it, they'll do it. The only thing that holds me back here is the fact EK themselves haven't said anything yet. If they do, I have no doubt they will follow through.

You mean like when EK officially announced this route three years ago, waffled on ever creating a solid schedule, blamed countries for not preemptively green-lighting partnerships that they had no obligation to grant, and then indefinitely suspended it with less than 4 weeks' notice before it was due to operate........

The market size can still be counted on one hand while two of those fingers are giving a peace sign, but sure go get 'em...

Wasn't this initially planned as a 3-4x weekly B77L service? Obviously not going to hold my breath but you never know. This time around may be different, and it's clear both sides have expressed interest in such a route.

There were days this flight had 5 seats sold, when it was up for sale before. If it ever comes to fruition it will burn through a lot of cash very fast.

That may all be true except for the waffling part of the solid schedule. Loaded in the GDS and open for sales until it was withdrawn were the following flight numbers and schedules:

EK251 DXB PTY 0805 1625
EK252 PTY DXB 2230 2330+1

Daily with B77L.

If Colombia rejects the idea, LIM would be a good second choice, albeit 800 miles farther than BOG. Other good choices (SCL, BUE) already have EK tag-ons from elsewhere.

I don't know it that's true or not, but maybe it's because Copa was not selling tickets with EK, and without Copa I don't think this route will ever work.

I really think that the only real option is Bogota, BOG could be a very good candidate because of cargo, now that CCS is not in good shape, otherwise I think CCS was the best candidate a few years ago.

SCL will be served via GRU. A second flight to GRU with following service to SCL will start in July. 5 times a week with the 777 200LR.

In fact , there were flights with zero (yes, 0) seats sold, just a few months before departure. The only justification for this flight would be hybris...

At the time, I really thought a non-insignificant reason for starting it was to have the world's longest flight (would've been 10mi longer than DFW-SYD, which at the time was the longest). Then they opened their own flight to AKL, QR did as well, and it became a thing of the past.
