Sorry if this has already been asked - but is AC building up 330's at mainline to eventually replace the Rouge 767 Fleet? So Rouge is all Airbus and Mainline goes almost all Boeing except for the A220's? (Assuming they order more 787 or 797 to replace the 330's)

Unlikely in the immediate future. AC is investing in updating all of the A330 cabins to current widebody mainline spec, which would be a waste of money if they were expecting to move them over to rouge.

But it would make sense in the long run, especially if the 767s stick with rouge for at least another 7 years.

It's amazing the progress made in aviation. Looking at AC's historical fleet entry for the DC8-43: 133 pax, 3375 statute mile range.

The A220-300: 137 pax, 3679 s.m range.

And they flew the DC-8 regularly transatlantic. Mind you the Diesel Eight probably had much more comfortable seat pitch. And it had great growth potential. I doubt we'll see a 205 seat A220 equivalent to the DC8-63 in capacity and range. Still...

Back on topic, I'm headed YUL-FCO and return in November, was hoping for an A330 but disappointed it will be a 789. The A330 is IMHO much more comfortable. My favourite aircraft in AC's fleet.

I noticed the same thing. I wonder if it was intentional.

The first 6 Canadian Built, DC-4M1 North Stars were given FINs in the 100s.
As were the Canadian Built CL-65-100/200s.
And now the Canadian Built A220s!

Maybe a nod to nationalism, ;)

That’s true. Never knew about the North Stars...before my time. :)

Speaking of FINs, how come some AC mainline and Jazz FINs overlap? The A220-CR1/2 being the latest example. I know they’re separate airlines (but once upon a time weren’t) but wouldn’t it make sense/be easier to not have any overlap?

Another thing about FINs/tail numbers is few airlines outside of Canada use them and instead use two or three letters of an aircraft’s registration (looks like the new Canadian North will be abandoning FINs in favour of 7F’s three letters system). I wonder why?

Well, only briefly as it has flown LIS-YVR-HND-QPG, from what I've seen.

Now only one of the original fours remains to be delivered. However two more are due this year too.

Perhaps this one will be part of the others that will join the fleet...

That is impressive, 5 more J and 3 more Y+ at the expense of only 3 Y seats. Kudos for them working out what I imagine will be a really space efficient layout. Looking forward to seeing how the new cabins will look in the A333 compared to the 789, if they make any changes to the seat design at all asides from changing the angle slightly to fit the narrower cabin.

They are starting the reconfigurations with their original aircraft? That's interesting. I sort of expected them to start with the "Lions"

Maybe it's related to the Max grounding and they expect to keep these A330s on some routes like this summer. One is currently at QPG.

I know the original plan was to go with the same seat as the 787/777, but I am having a hard time seeing how they could fit that many BE super diamond seats between L/R1 and 2, and given the Y+ cabin is also growing slightly, with Y staying more or less the same, I'm having a hard time seeing how it'll all fit, making me wonder if it is within the realm of possibility that they are going with a different J seat.

I'm guessing the economy seats will be tightened considerably. The current cabin has seats from 31-33 inch pitch depending where you are seated. I guess with the new seats, these will all be reduced to 30" to match the rest of the fleet & create extra space for the enlarged premium cabin.

It will be Super Diamond seats with 45 inch pitch but slightly different features and tray table. In PY it's a new MiQ seat with 38 inch pitch.

All I know for Y seats is they are Pinnacle seats and that there will be less lavs in Y and they will be moved (likely more at doors 4) as it was stated they are moved to create a every item Y cabin.

I believe they have 2 aircraft at QPG currently, it could be a capacity issue with the facility. Just a guess.

Skyliner is reporting ex SQ A330-343 msn1156 9V-STR is joining the AC fleet as C-GKUH.

That might be the identity of the 5th A330 supposedly joining the fleet.

Of the three that are expected, two this year and one in 2020, you can already find your answer in this very thread for the first and, probably, for the second too.

This year saw it on YUL-YVR and YVR-DUB. (Both in the SQ configured aircraft, no J class). Next year, on top of that, I believe Paris will be on the A333.

Interesting. I believe F24 displayed HND, as it usually was the fuel stop. Yes, as I write this, close to 5pm east coast time, it's still at ICN. Maybe it will depart tomorrow for Canada.

No, it did say HND... it was your post last night had me on FR24 and was still showing HND! But this morning I noticed landed in ICN!

Anyway, currently in air en route to YYZ as AC2314 over Russia!

It is now showing the plane flew XSP-ICN-YYZ and apparently is going to YMX instead.....

But anyway, the plane didn't touch HND apparently on its way back - purely from the departure time I suspect that might have something to do with slots at HND.

It did say XSP yesterday but obviously it departed from QPG. F24 still shows YYZ while Flightaware has YMX where C-GEGP was ferried from LIS two weeks ago. It might make sense.

Sorry yes QPG, was thinking of QPG and then typed XSP - obviously FR24 still saying XSP at the moment.

I don't have a definitive answer, but since recently other AC Airbus', including A333 C-GEGP have gone to YMX, I suspect some cabin work.

Today, A333 C-GKUH has been ferried HND-YVR. I suspect it will enter service from there, either on a domestic trip or to Europe.

The new configuration could not begin revenue flying until earliest December 1st, I believe, as the flight attendants only have ammended safety documents for it valid on that date.
