Yes I have to agree with you about the ugliest A350 out there. Shame because the A350 is such an amazing looking aircraft.

While it is certainly modern, it is no doubt also less expensive to maintain. Airlines are cutting costs everywhere they can.

This looks only slightly better then something that would be put in a children book and I am not exaggerating. This isn't a livery. It's a white plane with a logo on it.

Sorry Airbusonly, I'm firmly in the hate-the-new-LH-look party. Even more so now the first 350 is in it. I presume the tail colours is still in the first rendition of the new look and not the amended version.
There are some really gorgeous A350's around now and when this one pitches up next to it, I just wonder what's going through the minds of LH bosses when they see the comparisons.

It is a matter of opinion - the new LH livery was basic, bland, and boring. Until of course they put it on an A350. Now it's hideous.

This new Lufthansa livery reminds me of black armband. As if LH is in mourning. Why on Earth was the classic and beautiful livery replaced by this monstrosity?

Not exactly the end of the world. At least it has SOME color still left in it; considering what was done to JL and AY.

Would have looked better with the old blue color on the tail. Also, put the same blue color on the engines. The contrast between the almost black tail and the white fuselage is too steep in my opinion.

The only way this livery can be saved is by adding yellow to the crane on the tail.

Much nicer that the stale old yellow/blue combination. It's minimalist for sure, but elegant and very smart. I love the way the blue on the tail stops short of the leading edge.

I like the new look but the blue color is definitely too dark (and the picture was even taken when the sun was shining...). Saw it with my own two eyes and yes, it looks almost black during a typical day in February in Frankfurt.

That’s why I am looking forward to the update with a lighter color of blue.

At least the tires are not white.

Seeing both side by side, it's impossible to think of the new scheme as an improvement. I've seen it on a 747 and I can live with it. But this is very disappointing.

that's awful - the A350 is such a gorgeous plane, yet it looks drab in that livery.

Saw a few new LH planes in person at FRA yesterday... WOW... look so unfinished and incomplete... even AF looks colorful next to them. As a fanboy of LH, must say deeply disappointed.

With the slightly brighter blue it will be okayish.

I don't like it either, my first reaction was "I want the Spiegelei back".

But, this is not a single person's decision. They ask customers, mainly frequent Flyers for their opinion. I had been invited once to a place in Raunheim near FRA Airport to give my opinion about new seats. It takes a Long time and much Input to come to a decision.

I'm afraid to say it, but it does not suit the A350 at all, some feat on what is an elegant aircraft. It's not even that it's just bland, AY's livery looks great on the A350. A shame, but life moves on.

Modern aircraft, livery is very ugly and I don't like it. This is once my favourite airline, now no more because of the new livery.

Let's face it how many airlines in the 70s had a standard cheatline and logo on the tail? and how is that any different to what some now bemoan the 'eurowhite' style?? Goodyear's post is completely missing the point, he says:

The rebrand is not just about the way the plane looks, as I have said before 90% of an airlines branding is in the airport, offices, gates, aircraft interiors, uniforms etc. many passengers probably don't even notice the outside of the plane and in the case of LH they have got it completely right. Congratulations to the design team and LH board.

Hmm, I really start liking the new design - is that bad?

A few days ago i saw a LH A321 taking off from FRAs RW18. I'm not sure if it was the revised new livery but, in bright sunlight the blue still looked very dark. But i have to admit that the new livery looks better in the real world than on photos but, I still think the old one looks better.

Re the A350s side by side: I allways thougt that the grey underbelly on the old livery was superflous. But somehow i now understand why it was there. On the new one the fuselage looks some kind of.. unfinished?

As a LH fan, I must say that this new livery still hasn't grown on me, hard as I try. I don't see myself walking into that warm, efficient and familiar environment with this new look. It almost feels like I'd be going into a cave, or some makeshift holiday charter flight. The silver bird looks lifeless to me.

I suspect this livery disaster partially has its roots in the Austrian Airlines re-brand of a year ago. Then, the design bigwigs in the LH group already got away with reducing a livery to "all white plus a few logos". But crucially, the Austrian livery is still sort of balanced, as it has the red engines: it is not an entirely white plane with some text and a black tail.

Methinks they took this bad minimalistic approach one step too far this time: in the end, the Austrian livery could already have been a lot better. But it still sort of works, especially as no one considers OS to be a particularly fancy or nice carrier anymore anyway. LH, on the other hand, would dearly need something that is actually classy and stylish. Ah well.

Ha ha ! indeed it would cause an outcry. The SQ livery is proof that a good cheatline design with nice colour contrasts, a bold font typeface and prominent tail logo looks as good today as ever. LH is now in the league of AY, MU and JL for failed livery designs.

On the B747-8 the livery looks quite nice, on the A350 though it doesn't fit that good anymore. But imho it's far from "hideous". A bit unproportional but the A350 has never been a beauty-queen anyway.

That they painted the wings white doesn't help matters either.

Is it just me or the new livery made the 350 looks much shorter and stubbier, almost like the 788? Especially when you put the picture side by side, it looks like a comparison of a 788 and 789

That was my thinking. It makes the plane look stubby.

Anyways, the livery is nice if boring. I much prefer the NZ way of doing a dark tail on white body.

The ring and crane on the tail should be "bolded" to make them stand out more. From not much of a distance, the logo can hardly be made out. Overall, very bland and monochromatic, dull and uninspiring.

With all due respect, in the lame livery department there's MU and then there's everyone else. But mentioning LH in there does show how far they have fallen. To be totally fair, I have to see it in person: I didn't much like the new AA or AC until I saw them "live".

It is. It's ugly as hell. Drab, sad, uninspiring.

Remember: it's always the bad ones making career progress. It's the 'yes men' applying the concepts that management wants and that nobody likes.

And if you look at the whole rebranding (websites, mobile apps, etc.) it is very well done. Who cares about a livery today anyway?

The livery -being the single, most visible piece of any design concept- is the MAIN and BIGGEST part of any rebranding exercise. It's what all the fuss AND THE $$$ is about! Not a tablecloth, or a coffee pot with a logo on. Nor a headrest antimacassar or an amenity kit box. The rest are mere "ancillaries"...tickets, counters, cutlery, offices, etc.. The 'splashes' of yellow everyone keeps on mentioning are exactly what makes the rest of the rebranding much more appreciated by everybody...The 'splashes' ["to surprise the passenger"] are the only saving grace of an otherwise very dull design concept. And the splashes are the one marginally successful thing right because these still embrace the LH image&spirit, and they do so by using -you guessed it! - the yellow colour! So, It's exactly the opposite of what you say. Doubt you'd find any design expert who would agree with you...
LH have made an utter DISASTER of what was supposed to be their piece de resistance....

By the way I am not so sure about that. After about two weeks they realized they didn't pick the right colour. Whenever we discuss something that went wrong there will be at least one member, usually from North America, who will comment "Someone has to be fired!". Well, that's not how it works in Germany but I am sure someone had some sleepless nights after getting some critical questions from LH's management...
