Pretty sure this route is seasonal. No idea why they'd keep running it in August and then drop it for the Fall.

August is still summer vacation season, and despite the heat in August, a lot of people fly to Florida then so the kids can spend time with grandma and grandpa before school starts.

The RSW Airport web site shows passenger data by month going back to 1983. In every year - EVERY YEAR - September counts are lower than August counts.

My guess would be for the 2nd half of August the flight doesn't operate and then resumes for December 2nd half.

Isn’t that a winter seasonal route, and simply the end of the 2017-18 winter season?

I'm surprised BA OAK-LGW is still around. That route never made much sense to me considering BA's flights at SFO and SJC as well as OAK's less than ideal location.

What is the "less than ideal location" of Oakland?

I don't understand why you are taking such offense to a simple comment. Seats aren't everything, what's important for most travelers is frequencies. (Part of the reason this thread is about frequencies and not seats) CLE has taken some hits recently in terms of domestic service, so obviously you don't want to see an established carrier drop a route there.

I'm not talking offense, it's just nonsense to say "ouch". FYI, WN is flying CLE-MKE at a greater frequency than UA was. Did you really think UA/WN were going to co-exist? There was never enough demand for 4 daily CLE-MKE daily nonstops. Except for UA FFers, WN taking the route is a win. Won't argue there has been plenty of "ouch" for CLE in the past, not so much for this news.

It makes sense because they are trying to put Norwegian out of business by competing on the OAK-LGW route.. That is the point of the route. OAK's location is ideal for many, especially when the price is right.

If you're going to the peninsula, SFO is most convenient but if you're going to downtown SF, OAK and SFO are similar distances, and particularly transit times on BART. If you're going elsewhere in the Bay Area (a many times larger area than SFO-adjacent San Mateo county), OAK (or obviously SJC if south bay) is probably going to be more convenient.

The SFO and SJC flights go to LHR. The OAK flights go to LGW. Besides the obvious competition with DI, is there any other significance?

AA dropping ORD-SNA from 5 roundtrips to 4 seems a bit surprising. Back in the day, ORD-SNA had 4 757s, and according to a friend who was an AA 757/767 F/O, those flights were packed. So, with the 738, you would think that 5 roundtrips would be needed.

Could AA be switching from 738s to A321s, in order to gain a slot at SNA for another route?

Totally agree, which is why I was wondering about the less than ideal location comment from another person. OAK and SJC are easy, with SFO weather always becomes a concern.

I will use OAK, especially since I am going to Alameda most often. But I have also gone into the city from there quite easily.
