Today, a new era for Widerøe starts

Wed Apr 04, 2018 5:53 am

Widerøe Embraer E190-E2

Today, a new era for Widerøe starts

Acquires new aircraft type as the first airline in the world.

For the first time in 14 years, Embraer delivers a new passenger aircraft type, namely the second generation E-jet.

The launch customer is Widerøe, as with the E190-E2, it has acquired a high-tech tool to bite off in the aviation competition and also enter new markets.

It was in January last year that Widerøe ordered three E190-E2 and at the same time signed an option agreement for another 12 aircraft. 15 months later, the aircraft type is certified and ready for delivery.

The actual reception flight lasted over two hours and was completed on Monday afternoon.

10 o'clock local time Wednesday (15 o'clock Norwegian time) is the solemn ceremony ceremony at Embraer's plant and airport in São José dos Campos, about 80 kilometers northeast of São Paulo. Later in April, the aircraft will complete the first scheduled flights in Norway.

Widerøe currently has a fleet of smaller turboprops and will for the first time use aircraft with turbofan engines. While the aircraft currently have 39-78 seats, the new aircraft seats 114 passengers and reaches Europe.

"Being a launch customer is an honorable assignment, and it is also a lot of hard work. This is a big step for us to take, but we as a company have the tradition of taking a challenge, "says Widerøe chief Stein Nilsen.

Widerøe's first scheduled flights with the E190-E2 will take place on April 24th ( Bergen - Tromsø )

The new livery looks very sharp on the Embraer.

Maybe it's the angle but It's funny how the the size of the engines have changed the proportions of the E190 from long and thin on the E1 generation to short and chubby on the E2 generation. Looks similar to the E1 E170/E175.

Gratulerer til Widerøe og Embraer!

It's gonna be interesting to see how this will work out for Widerøe. First time with jets after so many years with only turboprops ...

Worked out pretty good for Norwegian Air Shuttle.

Looking forward to seeing those aircraft at HEL. Hopefully the routes from BGO and TOS work out, although they rely heavily on AY's Asian passengers.

As this a significant investment for an airline the size of Widerøe, is there any info on what kind of financial situation they are in?

I hope that these aircraft are a real boost for the airline. I wonder if we might see them flown TOS-PMI/LPA/ACE/FUE or other similar Sun routes during Winter months?

I hope also that Embraer is able to sell lots of E2. I think they pulled off a masterclass with the aircraft's development, certification and production so far! Lets hope that the aircraft's EIS runs just as smoothly.

Congrats to Embraer and Wideroe!
That's a great looking machine! I prefer the previous livery, this one looks too much like Turkmenistan, but anyway, still very nice.

the E190-E2 indeed looks a bit shorter with this massive engine and bigger center fuel tank. However, the E195-E2 was stretched when compared to the first gen E195 (NOT ERJ!!!). It's a looong bird, and very beautiful too.
Hope to see much success to them... and hope to see JetBlue buying some :stirthepot:

To be honest, I think it looks disproportionate and not very good. Will the E175NG also have those massive engines?

The engines on the E175 E2 will be 56 inches in diameter compared to 73 inches for the E190/E195 E2

I like it.

The big engines make the fuselage look nice and slender. Like a Blinder with underwing engines or something.

Those big engines remind me of the Boeing stickers with “chunky” planes on them.

https://goo.gl/images/jwKrN8

But overall good to see a new airplane type come into service.

Edit: Just noticed the ram air turbine is out in that landing picture. Was that some sort of test flight or is there already an issue with the plane?

..Yet another one with NO livery. All-white with a barely painted tail is not a livery. Why couldn't they take the same one they had been using on the Dash 8s with the multiple green hues on the fuselage and apply it here?

Another huge all-white bore to look at .. when they could have made it so much more attractive. Just like LH.

Raked wingtips are the true lookers! Though it does surprise me to see them utilized in such a small frame, seeing as Boeing opted to not incorporate them on the 737 (outside of the P-8). And Airbus, well, they went in a completely different direction.

"Norway's Widerøe Completes First Revenue Flight of an E190-E2"

Widerøe, Scandinavia's largest regional airline, completed the first scheduled passenger flight of an Embraer E190-E2 this morning. The aircraft, registered LN-WEA and operating as flight WF622, departed Bergen Airport on time at 7:35 AM and arrived at Tromsø Airport two hours later at 9:35 AM local time. The flight was sold out.

Today's flight marks the official entry into service of the first of three new E-Jets E2s that Embraer has developed to succeed its first-generation E-Jets. Deliveries of the larger E195-E2 are planned to start in 2019, and in 2021 for the smaller E175-E2.

"This is a truly historic day for the E-Jets program and for Embraer," said John Slattery, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation. "The first revenue flight is the crowning achievement of years of hard work and planning. I know Widerøe's customers are going to love flying on a such a green airplane."

Widerøe passengers experienced a quiet, environmentally-friendly flight on the 672 nm sector. The E190-E2 has the lowest external noise and emissions levels of any aircraft in its category and burns 17.3% less fuel than the current-generation E190.

Very impressive.

It is never possible to judge noise level from a video. But the plane is supposed to be very low noise.
