MDT announcement at 1000 today...4/4

Wed Apr 04, 2018 11:24 am

MDT has a post on their Facebook page that there will be an announcement at 1000 today...4/4. The announcement mentions more low fares and more non-stops.

Any guesses?

I just checked their website and see nothing on their route map and Harrisburg isn’t listed in their drop down menu.

After trying to book a flight go to Edit Booking Search and MDT is an option.

Harrisburg shows up on the Frontier app as a destination. The app doesn’t mention routes. Probably MCO.

It is F9 to Den operating Wed/Sat on an A320. Although there is a huge gap in times so there might be an MCO flight in there too.

I see MDT and PMW to RDU bookable. I can't see how those will work, even at 2x weekly.

I may have answered my own question. It does appear MDT-MCO will be part of the announcement.

Definitely quite interesting. I wonder if these are just to rotate aircraft and maybe sell a few seats as a plus.

MDT-RDU is definitely interesting, hope them the best! MCO and DEN did well before so I see those routes working well again.
Glad to see SYR and PWM also! Guess ABE will not be back at this point.

With JetBlue and Southwest at PWM I wouldn't have thought this smallish (#94 domestically) lacked for low-fare service. Frontier could probably fill a jet to MCO a couple of days week seasonally - AirTran did, IIRC. PWM-RDU though?

I’m guessing this is cause a retaliatory upgauge from United. Expect to see a lot of mainline on ORD-SYR.

United didn't retaliate at all when F9 ran MDT-DEN and even MDT-MDW for a short time. I wonder whether UA's strategy has shifted and we'll see them launch MDT-DEN on an E175.

They certainly didn’t last time. Even at 4x weekly and 9 months out of the year. I’d be curious once the routes are set for a while what happens. UA could offer daily year round, but they have other routes to contend with I’m sure.

I think this is likely it. Are they really going to be able to sell 160+ seats on an A320 from PWM/SYR/MDT to RDU even two days a week? Not many connections on either side to add to the passenger load.

United seems to be a bit more aggressive now then before. For example, F9 is launching 2x weekly ORD-PNS and UA is putting mainline on ORD-PNS on Saturdays to counter the F9 flight that is also on Saturday. This is in addition the the regular 2x daily CRJ/ERJ that UA flies on ORD-PNS. Not a huge reaction, but surprising for UA to put mainline into a market where there never has been before.

MDT-RDU is very interesting. Let's hope it works. MCO and DEN worked years ago for Frontier.
