According to this tweet , this is the new livery of Pakistan International Airlines , which is expected to be revealed by the end of this month.

Note:The source also mentions that there is a 5% chance that this may not be the final design.

So what do the People of this forum think ? Is it any good or does it add another horrible design into the era of bad liveries we are currently experiencing ?

I have to say I like this; ok, lots of white, but I like this tail motif better (presumably some kind of Pakistani animal?), and I like the flag design too. I never liked the flag design on the current fleet; this looks a lot more professional.

I like the current livery better. Simple and elegant, with no update required in my opinion...

As a Pakistani, I'm really banking hard on that 5% right now.

I actually like it; sure, lots of white, but I think it looks a lot more professional. The flag on the current design looks quite cheap IMHO and I like how it flows from the cockpit. The tail design looks better too. Overall, I think it is classy and gives the airline the professional "feel" and "look" that it needs.

The brand orphan PIA continues to experiment with Various ideas that can help it re-enter the Global Aviation Scene. However this pathetic attempt fails to be unique enough to stand out of the crowd especially when compared the Iconic Green,White and Gold PIA once wore.

How does this design relates to Pakistan?

I like the deer image on the tail. Not sure how many deer live in Pakistan and how typical it is there though. Personally, I would think an animal of the Karakoram mountains would be more suitable, like these large sheep with big horns. Or a snow leopard.

I'm totally lost why they have this caricature of a large eyed green elephant next to the PIA title however.

Apparently the animal on the tail is called a Markhor and is the national animal of the nation

As a Pakistani, I'm really banking hard on that 5% right now.

Aren’t we all hoping for that 5%

I try not to get too caught up in how much I like or dislike liveries because taste is individual but given how disjointed and shoddy this is I think PK would be better off forgoing a livery and selling that surface area as advertising space.

I like the tail but it doesn’t fit PIA. Disjointed is the right word for the livery. The flag (while I get where they were going with it) looks odd and out of place.

Isn't PIA on the blocks to be privatised? Surprised that a major livery change happens so close to change of ownership.

Overall not bad. There's 'just' enough colour to offset that huge vast white space... and the shaded greens do make up for a nice 'very visual' splash of colour! I am not too keen on the shape of the huge flag and the font of the PIA script. Personally I'd favour a more stylized flag, a bigger version of the traditional lettering next to a smaller "Pakistan", and the flying Markhor dark green rather than grey.

Oh boy. I'd take a Eurowhite to this any day. I don't understand why people dislike Eurowhites: they are smart and sophisticated. WHAT IS THIS??

It seems all over the place, they should just keep what they have.

I thought this was the new livery they introduced in October last year.

I like the tail design and it’s replication on the engine it looks smart, the rest of it however looks atrocious, it’s poorly spaced, too complex and each element clashes with the others, that font looks awful...honestly just terrible

I agree. Remove that ridiculous flag from the front, maybe make the tail design bigger and move the PIA to the left.

Although on looking at it further, the tail design seems to incorporate the elements of the aircraft, such as the horizontal stabilizer etc. The flag and PIA don't. Could those just be slapped on after? and not part of the design?

Haha! That's the Pakistani flag, but it totally does look like an elephant the way it has been applied here!

I don't like it.

It's half SATA, 25% PIA+ 25% Qatar wanna be. Why do so many airlines have trouble with design concepts? LH is a flop with their black/blue logo, TP looks like a mixed salad on the tail, AC went to its 90's roots to reflect Canadian colours (perhaps the tar sands colours) , UA just adopted the Continental logo. Why aren't these national carriers sticking to their roots with innovative designs and/or using national emblems/symbols properly?

The front is muddled and dreadful, but the tail is cool.

Too many dramatic elements, you don't know if the tail or the flag is the main visual element. The flag needs to be about half the size if not even smaller, nice fresh colours though! but the PIA lettering somehow looks rather hangdog sad to me...

I think this design (if the final design) is very lively and vital.

The flag clearly points to national state identity. And the fact that is billowing, to me, is lively and non-static, sort of moving forward.

And the animal on the tail, which also appears to be active, gives it a sense of vitality. And the multicolored image is quite artistic.

I think this livery will look very brilliant in reality and in the sun.

Did they hire the marking agency / graphic designers that did Sata / Azores Airlines?

I like the tail and the engine, I don't mind the flag either. However these elements don't go together, its too loud and adds to many colours. Its two different design ideas and they should stick to one of the two.

Wow... that's awful. It's like a 'perfect' mix of too bland and too busy. PIA has always had very smart schemes, and even their most recent one, although a little bit basic, still looked nice and professional. To me, this doesn't look like a professional, well balanced scheme at all... it's just a hodgepodge of logos plastered on a white fuselage. I really hope someone slaps some sense into the PIA marketing team before they decide to go with this as their next livery...

I do not like all the white. I like the design on the tail, but the lack of a background color bothers me.

Why change it?

I love it.

It's really messy, wow. It looks like clipart. I would move the urdu to the engines like Emirates and delete the flag in front of the PIA title.

If this does turn out to be the livery what a shame. They should go back to the 1980 livery with a modern facelift.

The flag at the front is totally out of place. If that was removed or reduced to a fraction of its current size and not necessarily stamped in the same place, I would say it was pretty good.

I like the markhor but the livery on the fuselage just looks slapped on hastily. Also with the markhor I get a “copy of QR” vibe

The flag is obviously important, but the application is horrible. They should incorporate the star and crescent into the livery some other way. The tail is interesting, but the entire fuselage needs to be redone. Maybe some color wouldn't hurt...

The Markhor (goat) is leaping ecstatically from right to left, mimicking the direction of the aircraft. I imagine it will be reversed on the far side to maintain that momentum.

In contrast, the flag is billowing in the wrong direction, against the prevailing wind. Might that be remedied on the reverse side? I'm struggling to see any way that it can be put right. And the white border at the end of the flag looks rather too much like someone's dirty laundry got caught up in a cockpit window. I apologize sincerely for phrasing it that way; it is not my intention to disrespect the national flag. Perhaps the designer needs to consider that aspect too. How exactly do you display a section of white flag, against a eurowhite background? In reality it can't be done.

The only reason you can make out the white section at all is because a.net's quote box isn't as pure white as some of us thought it was.....

(Meanwhile I'm trying hard to think of another example of an airline featuring a flag which is directional, and featured on the fuselage, not the tail; Swissair is a fail on all counts because it looks the same left, right, or even standing on your head. The nearest I can find is the red & blue ribbon on BA aircraft)

Footnote;
Yes I am aware the white section of flag is normally defined by being adjacent to the flagpole, but there is no flagpole serving that purpose on the PIA design.
Indeed, the white section of flag that is scrunched up nearest the cockpit, should never appear that way.



Edit; maybe my throwaway comment about the flag appearing to be caught up in the cockpit window is actually correct?
Maybe they are attempting to portray the flag as if the pilot is hanging on to one corner of it, and flying the plane with his other hand?

I bet the effect of the pilot hanging the flag sounded great in the development room and the powerpoint. It's a damn elephant now.

I kinda like it, kinda. It seems very QR to me.

Why is there a dirty big sword slashing the flag on the front of the aircraft?

That is hideous.. why not try painting the whole plane in the same green color from their flag to stand out a little and also make it more simple at the same time?

I didn't realize it was a flag at first. I thought it was a disgruntled shark with a star for its eye...
