This is very interesting. Has anybody (e.g. El Al) ever flown non-stop to South America from TLV? (I would assume CCS or EZE was operated in the 70s or 80s)

El Al ended its own flights to GRU in 2011.

Excellent news!
Tel Aviv always was in my wish list for holidays but the prices via Europe or ME were impeditive. Hope this route helps on this.
Anyway it will be a nightmare another long journey stuck in Y in a 787...

Nice! Just curious what are the main business links between South America and Israel? I know there are large Jewish populations there but that’s not enough to sustain a longhaul flight.

Has anyone ever flown EZE-TLV nonstop? It would be nice if LA had 3 weekly flights from GRU and 3 from EZE.

Has LATAM managed to get overflight permits over some of the Islamic nations it has to overfly on the way? Traditionally, some of these countries do not allow flights from/to Israel over their airspace.

Although last week Air India and the Indian diplomacy managed to have Saudi Arabia grant overfly permits on its Delhi - Tel Aviv flights.

Not yet. That said, the LATAM flight to/fr TLV is perfectly timed to connect at GRU with LATAM flights from AEP, EZE, ROS, COR, TUC & MDZ. That will give the flight a good chunk of feed, given that Argentina has the largest Jewish population in Latin America.

Price wise, it is not the cheapest option. Right now, LATAM is offering for a random date in January 2019 a r/t fare of AR$37,036. Iberia is offering for the same dates AR$41,930, TK AR$38,513 and good old Ethiopian AR$24,716. No wonder Ethiopian flights from EZE are packed to the gills.
Keep calm and wash your hands.

Fantastic news
Why is flying so expensive? And why is flying well so much more?

Looks like...
Or it's just another excuse for another Latam (read old TAM) management marketing oriented only announcement.

They are having some trouble getting the desired slots at the schedule they want.

Hello,

did anyone noticed that in the article above the schedule gives us a flight time of 11:05H GRU-TLV and a 16:55H flight time on the TLV-GRU leg ......?

I think I saw it correctly.
Can anyone comment please?

Have a good live

I don't think Egypt will raise any objections. What about Niger/Chad/Sudan?

If i'm not mistaken, LY had to operate over the Mediterranean and then south on their flights between TLV and South America. I don't know if ths is why LY pulled out, but I'm sure this added a lot of flight time to the route.

Hello all,

don´t want to be annoying but this is what I meant.

Local time departure UTC departure Local time arrival UTC arrival Flight time
SCL-GRU 16:00 19:00 21:05 00:05 05:05:00

GRU-TLV 23:00 02:00 16:05 13:05 11:05:00

TLV-GRU 18:20 15:20 05:35 08:35 16:55:00

GRU-SCL 07:30 10:30 10:45 13:45 03:15:00

I know this presentation is a bit "messy", but couldn´t do better at this time, sorry for that

Is this correct?

Thank you for you insights.

Have a good life.

no worries!

There is one other detail: Brazil will be in savings time (DST) in December, 1h forward.

Flight time would be 12:05 on GRU-TLV and 15:15 on TLV-GRU, still a 3h scheduled difference (eastbound x westbound), which I do not know if it excess precaution or just a mistake.

As a reference TK15/16 has a 1h difference in scheduled flight times.

Google Flights is displaying 13:05 and 15:15 as the flight times now. Still a 2 hr difference. Even DOH-AKL and PER-LHR don't have that much difference.

If this flight could follow the shortest route possible, I’d say the flight time would be about 12 hours. This would be similar to TLV-MIA (on which BTW the eastbound-westbound duration schedule difference is 1:30).

Since the flight time is 13 hours, that means that the shortest possible route is not available (due to political reasons), and there’s probably about a 1,000km detour built-in in order to circumvent overflying counties like Libya.
