Where are SQ’s 77Ws going?

Sat Apr 14, 2018 1:20 pm

I noticed SQ is deploying the A359 on routes where it previously deployed the 77W (e.g. MXP, MUC, AMS).

While I noticed some routes have been upgauged (e.g. CPH is now a 77W route), where are all the 77Ws coming off these routes going?

Well the ones that are being stored are 77E and 773, not 77W. Given that SQ is currently deploying their fleet of 27 77W’s and a bunch of 359 with long-haul routes, I can hardly agree with that those 77W are to be sent for storage before 2020. Some routes previously served with 77E and 773, or even 333 are now showing an equipment to 77W. Remember SQ repaired their badly-burnt 77W in 2016 (9V-SWB), which was quite old (10.2 years)in terms of SQ standards.

Certainly no 77W’s in storage.

Some of those routes listed are several times a day like SYD/MEL.

Yes but those routes listed, except CPH, MNL, and CGK, has been 77W before the A359 EIS. CGK is only seeing one daily 77W. You can assume the same airframe also goes to MNL. Still doesn’t add up.

I’m honestly not sure if there are other 77W routes but if you take the medium to long haul routes from that list or all but PEK/PVG/CGK/MNL you will likely use 21-22 frames, I’m not 100% sure on exact 77W flights to SYD/MEL/HND, do the 77W’s still do MXP? Plus add in some regional flights and others that are seasonal.

SYD/MEL have more 77W’s than they used to.

SQ is keeping their planes for a little longer these days. There are a few 16 year old 777s still in the fleet. The ones leaving are the leased A330s and A380s.
