Any future for Singapore Airlines Cargo?

Mon Apr 23, 2018 11:55 am

The B747-400Fs are, in SIA terms anyway, ancient and the company has recently come back under the parent AOC.
With no orders for replacement equipment, is Singapore looking to exit the main deck cargo market?

I think to go from that many 744F's to nothing if they exit the pure-cargo market would have far wider implications for Singapore's business with such a huge loss of cargo capacity.
Hoping they'll get a good deal on 748F's but more realistic would be a 777F order.

I'm also hoping that they will order some 748s.

A very good question, I have often thought about this myself, but can add little value to the discussion as I can´t think of the answer! Given their freight profile, I doubt nose loading capability is a must, so I would put my money on the T7. And a decision can´t be that far out. Maybe others know more.

With cargo being reintegrated back into parent airline, I think their future is more about partnerships with others than flying their own freighters.

SQ now has cargo partnerships with folks like Luftansa, SAS, ANA and NCA among others which it can piggy back on and offer a commercial network without as many headaches of organic freighter ops.
