EK203 diverting to CPH (Again)

Thu Apr 26, 2018 6:14 am

EK203 travelling from DXB to JFK is currently diverting to CPH. Not sure what is happening but apparently fire engines have been sent out to the runway. Anyone know?

Something similar happened a few days ago, which I believe was a medical emergency?

What is weird is the difference between the 2 diversions. The other day they circled and (supposedly) dumped fuel before landing in CPH. Today was more or less straight in. The other day they arrived at JFK at 15.20, today's ETA is 11.38, almost 4 hours quicker.
The obvious question is, if they can land straight in today, why couldn't they do so the day before yesterday? The two flights should have had similar amounts of fuel on board. Or was today's flight much lighter on cargo and/or passengers?

Maybe they have to land overweight due to some real trouble?

It could be that the previous issue was urgent but not critical (i.e. unable to go TATL, but able to wait an hour or two while monitored and stable) while this situation was absolutely time critical.

Maybe I'm wrong, but if that was the case and the plane did indeed land overweight wouldn't inspections have to be carried out before the aircraft flew again?

Yes. While I do not know about the 380, an overweight landing inspection does not take long on Boeing types provided it wasn’t a hard landing as well. I presume Airbus are similar.
