Does UPS really only fly to 3 cities from LAX?

Their socal business is mostly consolidated at ONT, which seems like a good idea

Why would they need more? Their business isn’t anything like flying passengers around who prefer non-stops. Nothing wrong w connections and mega-hubs in their business.

Amazing the cargo operations at ONT! The huge UPS hub, large Fedex, and in the past few years a large Amazon Prime hub.

Actually I believe we only serve SDF as I dont recall any of the others on the bid.
Basically the only thing the LAXflight (same with LGB,SNA,BUR) are for are priority overnight shipments.
Bulk of LA basin shipments can be served via ONT hub and of course the huge trucking network UPS has in Western US.

Does UPS actually fly LAX ONT? It seems trucking would be about the same.

It is not just the airport. The intersection of I10 and I15 in Ontario/Fontana is pretty much 10square miles of distribution centers. Not far away are the Long Beach/LA rail yards and the San Bernardino train depots and it is a huge freight area.

LAX isnt particularly convenient for domestic freight compared to ONT.

The only regular flights UPS has at LAX is the morning flight, SDF-LAX-SDF UPS904 / UPS2903 and the afternoon/evening flight SDF-LAX-SDF UPS2900 / UPS903. The arrivals from ONT and DFW you saw were probabley either Christmas season ad-hoc flights or aircraft repositioning flights.

Like mentioned above, UPS’ primary west coast hub is located at ONT, with 50+ flights a day.
