A new three-tier pricing policy has been instituted by El Al on certain flights to Europe, and it appears to be the carrier's latest response to the low-fare carriers that are now moving into Israel.

As I see it, Elal had very little options here.
Rynair, Easyjet, Wizzair and many other low cost carriers are giving some hard time on the low cost side of things.
Local charter airlines like Arkia and Israir are taking their toll on the leisure side, offering cheap deals for hotel and flight combined.
Business customers are leaving them for the European legacy carriers which offer higher level of experience.

So they left with? Basically just the old fashion Israelis choosing Elal by default just because of it's security.

I think they should have waited with this response and introduce this new pricing model after the merger with Israir is completed, re-launching the European routes with the new pricing under the Israir brand.
