An memo to employees stated there will be an announcement at 10et tomorrow. Sounds like it will be a big event. Seems like more than wifi to me. Also had the intriguing note "we aren't the only ones who are excited" which suggests to me codeshare, merger, or aircraft order.

The pieces of the puzzle are starting to connect. Perhaps, they order either C-Series or A319NEO's, with those new aircraft will include WIFI for charge. With new planes come new routes, both the CS and Airbus can be produced quickly which will give the fleet more slack for additional routes.

My pipe dream at the very end is that they'll move to a permanent space in Orlando and relocate their HQ. :D

This is highly likely a service/product announcement. I wouldn’t bet on any order or merger announcement.

I work for Spirit and today corporate received an email about a monumental announcement at spirit headquarters in Miramar tomorrow, May 11th at 10 am. The email went on to say that the media may be there and that we will have some other guests that are very excited about this announcement also. Now here's the kicker. The flight attendant group was informed that they may accent there uniform with accessories in teal and grey. That to me seems awfully random. Of all the colors to accent black and yellow, why choose teal and grey? Take those little tidbits and make your own assumptions.

I'm betting it is fleet driven. I suspect C-Series, but I don't think a Transatlantic or deep South America capable A/C is that crazy either.

I don't think an airline would do an event just for 319NEOs when they are already an A320 family operator....so if it is in fact for a new aircraft my money is on the C-series

Since wifi has been mentioned multiple times I'll post this article from last year:
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/artic ... fi-440624/

"Spirit Airlines is close to signing a deal to equip its entire Airbus A320 family fleet with wi-fi, in a move that departs from the airline's long-held strategy of eschewing amenities on board."

"Spirit chief executive Bob Fornaro tells FlightGlobal that installations will begin in 2018. The carrier expects it will take about a year for the entire fleet to be equipped.

Spirit's new in-flight connectivity service will also allow passengers to stream entertainment to their own devices"

"If it's just about [being able to send] e-mails, we won't be doing it," says Fornaro. He declines to specify when Spirit will announce the deal, but says the carrier is "very close" to signing an agreement."

hmmmmmm....

Crazy bet that won't happen: I would like to think that Spirit is going to announce that they will make a mini-hub out of the soon to be abandoned (and relatively new) 8-10 gate South Terminal Concourse D at MSY. They are ramping up at MSY quite a bit, and I'm not sure the new North Terminal in 5 years, given the growth rates will suffice for expanded high frequency operations between NK/WN/F9/G4.

Money bet: New Aircraft Order (in order to start services to smaller markets)

My money’s also on Wi-Fi. Someone earlier said that a Spirit customer wouldn’t be willing to spend $15 on Wi-Fi, but they already seem to be happy to spend $3 on a soda, $15 on a seat assignment, and $50 for a bag, sooo...

Code share with WestJet? They did just announce a new livery on their 787s that are coming (something "big"?)

Well they’re probably about due for another rebranding. That seems to be their thing.

WiFi makes sense but is it really that big of a deal?

A319neo? A ufo was placed for 22 recently. Maybe?

Wireless would make sense. I recently flew Frontier from PVD-MCO and several of the flight attendants were saying that Frontier is also considering Wireless. (They also mentioned that Frontier might be revisiting their infamous seats)

I think it makes sense for ULCCs to offer more "a la carte" services. More expansive snack and drink options, wireless, even power ports. All for a fee, of course.

They already ARE the leading ULCC. Frontier is a little child scribbling lines on a map and Allegiant operates on an entirely different business model.

What is Allegiant's business model? Also, I flew Spirit today and I have to say I really am starting to like them. They are very reliable, and I know 100% what I am paying for. Yes, the seats are very tight but I pay so much less. I flew with the Big Front Seat today. Amazing value! Only $40 more than the random seats. Exit rows were $24 so only $16 more and I had a big ass seat.

Not to mention F9’s logo and colors which are teal and gray:
Image

I have to say, I think a merged F9/NK would be very interesting. F9 is starting more NK-like operations with connections in cities such as DEN, CVG, ORD, LAS, PHL, and MCO. With a combined 197 aircraft in service and 247 on order, that would make quite a big airline!

The media would have got a whiff of some kind of merger/acquisition/order by now.

Check out their facebook.. they talk about adding their mobile check-in app and kiosks and then asking about "guess what's next tomorrow!"

That definitely point to some kind of product announcement.

Just as an aside to my post, that was just an idea I had. It is pretty much impossible that such a merger would not have been leaked already. I think the WiFi idea is probably the most likely for tomorrow.

Why would they have this "BIG" event at their HQ with employees and media just to announce WiFi? Sorry to say none of the employees and not too much of the media would care or would be connected/related with adding WiFi onto their planes. I'm guessing an aircraft order or a re-branding/larger product change than just WiFi.

It is in NK and F9’s interest to merge. I have doubts about F9’s ability to survive long term without a merger.

And if NK wants to compete better with the legacies basic Y fares, they’ll need a bigger network. They are noticably absent from a fair amount of mid-sized markets such as AUS, BNA, RDU, CVG, IND, CLT, and STL. Some of these airports have limited gates, so acquiring F9 may be an avenue in getting into these airports.

Definitely don't think its an F9 merger... otherwise, wouldn't F9 have sent out a memo to their own employees about an announcement?

Probably something to do with the Miami Dolphins is my guess. If so, we can definitely eliminate an announcement they're the official carrier of the Dolphins since none of the players can fit into any of their seats.

Blue and grey are the colors of their passengers knees. More legroom to come?

yet, when it comes up here, everyone is jumping into talks of mergers, widebodies, adding 20 new cities and a new fleet type. airliners.net 2018. oy.
