Wing walker was watching it and stopped the tug just before contact. It took several back and forth rounds with the tug to straighten out and find the right angle to get the bird out of that tight spot. Usually I see AC A320s there due to the clearance. A 788 doesn't have a massive wingspan but that gate is definitely meant for smaller aircraft.
