I think MU is a really good guess, I would really like to see them with a new livery.

MU changed their livery just a couple of years though...

True and it really looks nothing like anything MU currently has in their branding. I guess it is just more of a personal wish. :)

Missing essential colours for an AF design IMHO.

I have my money on AF. Assumption is that they are willing try to bring Joon and AF closer to make it more clear that Joon is part of AF, sort of like what CX did with KA. The blue stripe almost goes through the door in the same exact spot as on the Joon a340, but that may just be a coincidence.

AF has an iconic gorgeous tail. I dont see them abandoning it for something this abstract.

I AGREE 1000000%, Air France would never (I pray) dump their iconic speed-flag tail. If they did for THIS, there must have been some sort of collective hysteria and madness pill given to all management!

As others have mentioned, it's probably not United because they wouldn't announce this on a holiday, their A350's aren't coming until 2022, and they've already revised their livery slightly.

Whatever it is, it's not bad but it copies every other Eurowhite livery out there, so it's not very creative.

How many airlines have this exact same concept? Colors on the tail that extend downwards to the back of the fuselage, with the rest of the plane white.

Look at the tail and winglet, its got to be an A350.

How certain is this design? Is it an absolutely 100% guaranteed peek at a new livery for an airline? It’s just too much of “nothing” to be a passenger airline- and I assume there are no A350 cargo orders.

Probably an assumption based on the number of windows aft of the point of the wing fairing ( 14 ), and their shape, which matches an A359.

It's an artist's impression of a generic plane shape that everyone here is assuming is an A350

Could easily be an A330NEO too. Not every artist is a plane geek.

I tend to agree.
IMO, this was just a draft for the new Lufthansa livery. On monday, some of those drafts will be released to the public, to show that the new livery could have been a lot worse.

Here, Mr. Spaeth is quoting an AirwaysLive tweet concerning the new LH livery, while refering to Monday next week: https://twitter.com/SpaethFlies/status/ ... 3898882048

Moreover, he met with the designers of the new LH livery in the last weeks, so he'll probably share his impressions via Airways.See: https://twitter.com/SpaethFlies/status/ ... 8781921281

Also, in the first place, he was talking about a "major airline brand redesign draft", and not a new, yet-to-be-announced livery.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it was British Airways. They have pretty much dispensed with all features of their service that smacked of quality so it must be about time they dropped their elegant livery and replace it with something as uninspired as the one illustrated by the op.

I wish I could end my comment with a joky smile but sadly IMHO it’s BA that is the joke these days.

What upcoming A350 deliveries do we have? Philippine Airlines, Delta, Lufthansa, China Airlines, LATAM and Singapore?

LATAM and Lufthansa just changed theirs, so unlikely.

That leaves:

Philippine Airlines - Pretty old paintjob they have right now.
Delta - Would be weird without the Delta triangle
China Airlines - The colours sorta match
Singapore - Just announced that they will merge with SilkAir. Possibly a major rebranding of the entire group coming up? It certainly fits with the "major airline" part.

Everyone is also ignoring how the design matches the LH logo wings perfectly as illustrated by A330freak on the first page of this thread.

It is just a draft of a rejected LH design.

Agreed. It’s not anyone’s actual livery. It’s essentially click-bait and clearly a rejected draft, most likely LH’s.

On the plus side, it makes their new livery look better!

Yikes. Really hope that isn't UA. Also, why would it be LH- their new livery is what, a few weeks old? Surely it hasn't been that poorly received to warrant a redesign already.

Let’s all re-read the tweet.

You'll never guess which major airline brand redesign draft this might be. The mystery will be solved with a major revelation on Monday, stay tuned.

First sentence. All it states is that this is a draft.

Second sentence. “A major revelation” could be just about anything.

Nowhere is it stated that a major airline will reveal a new livery on Monday. Nowhere.

This could be as simple as Lufthansa sharing more broadly the work of it’s recent re-branding exercise with an audience and in doing so sharing some early drafts involved in the work including some of the livery options.

Pull back on all the excitement and hype of a new livery. Re-read the tweet!

I agree with everyone who says this is just a reveal of a Lufthansa draft livery. Nowhere does that tweet indicate a new livery will be announced.

The draft designs for Lufthansa were all on A350 templates and that's quite clearly a basic A350 outline.

Could it have been one of the drafts that LH considered for their recent new livery? The 4 white stripes fit the spacing and slight curvature of the 'wings' on their logo quite well. If this was one of their drafts, I'm glad they didn't choose it! (not that I'm a fan of what LH did choose)

Here's a quick photoshop superimposing the logo

This would’ve looked cool, so long as the stripes were yellow, even resembling the captain’s “four stripes” (similar to what Midwest did with its fleet on the aircraft’s nacelles). The extra color is crucial, that or add a gradient to make the stripes look “polished” or shiny, like AA’s tails.

Dont think its FINNAIR because they only "recently" had their new livery in 2010.
My guess goes to SAS. 4 stripes for 4 nordic countries. Altough finland doesnt have shares in SAS, SAS itsself flies some flights from there and the blue could come from their current livery

Monday is a major national holiday in the USA in which we remember those who have died in combat in the service of our nation. While it's true that most Americans mark the day with cookouts and a day at the beach, I would not expect a major US carrier to make such an announcement on Memorial Day. It would be inappropriate, especially for an airline that carries a lot of US servicemembers. Moreover, it would mean that most of the UA marketing team would have to be at work on a major federal holiday. While airlines, of course, operate 24/7/365, non-operations personnel usually would get the day off. I'm a doctor and I get the day off.

So I'm going to guess it's not UA.

The winglet is a dead give away. And the tail definitely fits the profile and scaled dimensions of an A350 tail.

You're missing the point: I'm not contesting that the image is of an A350, when it clearly is.
I'm saying that just because the image is an A350, doesn't mean that the aircraft this design will appear on is.

As said above: artists aren't avgeeks.
Think of how many times you've seen a 747 or 737 generically placed in an airline-related ad or article, which turns out to have nothing to do with either.

Whoever this ends up being needs to fire the person(s) who gave it the green light and fire the agency that was probably paid big $$$ to come up with such rubbish design. Calling it “design” is actually an insult to the word. A 1st grader can pant a plane all white, paint the tail dark blue and throw 3 white slashes. What a joke.

Someone who works at Finnair confirmed that they will not be doing this brand refresh.

To me, it will always be:
- Bombardier CSeries
- Airbus A321neoLR and A321neoXLR
- EMBRACER ERJ-170, ERJ-175, ERJ-190, and ERJ-195
- MITSUBUSHI MRJ

The more I look at it the more I'm convinced that it's SAA. The blue fits their blue, and each white strip could be colored red, gold, green and black with a silver lining somewhere.
But since it's a draft it could be that some of the blue is replaced by red towards the top for instance in the final version.
Plus the announcement part would fit with the long awaited A350 order, which could be MOUed now and firmed in Farnborough.

SN is not getting any A350's even though the tail looks similar to LH.

As Av geeks we focus predominantly on the aeroplane. As business and marketing managers the focus is bent more towards the front line (electronic and print media, travel agents, web sites, events, etc.).

As such, what works on a plane may just be confusing as a medium for customers.

For instance, if Airline A wants to advertise flights to a destination point (l.e. Paris) the brand focus would be predominantly destination based rather than airline based. The trick for Airlines is to associate the brand with the destination.

QANTAS is an excellent example of how this works. People travelling to Australia often do so because of the destination, not because of QANTAS the airline. In choosing to travel to Australia they may also choose to fly QANTAS because of its connection to the destination (flying Kangaroo). As such a QANTAS advertisement for flights to Australia would be predominantly destination based (i.e. photos of Sydney Harbour) with subtle QANTAS branding (I.e. QANTAS aircraft or brand).

In contrast a frequent flyers program may be Aiine Brand focused as these programs are designed to create Brand loyalty in contrast to Brand awareness. In these situations the focus could be on priduct diferentiators such as airport lounges, the business class seat product, other benefits, etc other than the plane itself.

Again the trick is to associate the airline with a suite of produc ts, rather than an aeroplane.

It IS Lufthansa. It’s simply one of the many (rejected) drafts used during the recent re-branding.

PR also mentioned recently they were going to under go a rebrand, if this is a draft only and more colour is added - could be for PR.

Totally agree!!!!

This has to be the new look of the combined Erurowings group.

Yeah and everytime a plane flies by, people will imagine the Lufthansa crane right there. Sigh.
It would also cast a bad omen on LH... The crane's clipped wings. Put that on a B777X with folding wingtips and see what will happen...
Might as well put an air crash scene as livery.

After the debacle with the new LH livery, we shouldn't be surprised if true.

The real surprise would be A359's for EW.
