FAQ

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares departures for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

THE SCHEDULES SHOWN HERE CHANGE AFTER YOU POST???
-To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often---Winston Churchill. This is data the carriers filed at the point in time it was captured. It's changed since then. You are just going to have to live with it.

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

WHERE ARE SEATS SHOWN?
They aren't. This only shows departures.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Flights that do not operate every day of the month create fractional service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. For example, if a flight operates 4 times in April it will show 4/30=0.133=0.1. Also , a flight that only operates once per week may vary between 0.1 and 0.2 because a weekday may repeat either 4 or 5 times depending on the month.

WHAT ABOUT CARRIERS THAT DON'T PUBLISH A SCHEDULE 9 MONTHS IN ADVANCE?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. I remove the schedule adds if I see them and show a year over year (YOY) comparison if I notice them.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE SKYWEST
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ERROR?
The carriers file the schedules. They do make mistakes. Most of the mistakes I have seen are either related to code shares not being marked as "duplicates" or carriers filing flights with invalid data such as equipment codes that are not standard. This causes flights to not appear.

CHARTERS?
Lately charters have been showing up in the database. I have no idea if that will continue.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

Looks like the summer experiment worked out. No reason not to have more than one carrier on this route.

Do they take feed from AS or B6? Seems like they should stick to west coast of NA instead of the YVR-JFK flight from the loads.

Nice uptick - they only ran 2 daily last year.

Both of these launches will be post-poned because of aircraft delivery delays at Interjet. Looking to start in November instead of June this year. No official date yet.

Good that someone is finally competing with B6 on the route.

Not surprised at AA dropping LAX-MBJ or the cuts on JFK-BDA.

Semi-surprised at DL returning on JFK-ANU. They've run it before but were always the smallest player in the NYC-ANU market. That's now four carriers on NYC-ANU (AA, B6, DL, UA). SXM is the only other Eastern Caribbean market that has that many carriers out of NYC.

I think we will have to wait and see but it does actually resume on 12/22/18 so there are two weeklies in December and it is bookable through the window Delta has released so far (the usual 11 months out). The question is will they run the flight Sept-November 2019? Though a storm isn't impossible AUA is outside the hurricane belt so its an option for September and October travel.

Delta dropping down to 3 flights DTW-TPA seems surprising given that this is at least 5 or 6 flights a day most times of the year.

It's just for the month -- a normal frequency reduction that can be offset by gauge. September and October are the pits for Florida. DL's been on a consistent growth trajectory in the TPA market with the return of SLC, the addition of up to 3x mainline to BOS, and now mainline on one of the two RDU turns.

Do they take feed from AS or B6? Seems like they should stick to west coast of NA instead of the YVR-JFK flight from the loads.

PR is dropping the 4x YVR-JFK flight and replacing it with MNL-JFK nonstop In October. Seattle is reportedly in the pipeline too.

It’s been 1.9 for the last 6 years. Except for the summers have been at 2.

We haven’t seen more that 4 flights a day from JetBlue since they ended the 6am CLT-JFK back in December of 2012 if I recall correctly.

The problem is besides aircraft operated, the brands are completely different.

UE competes on route that already have service by offering better service. This includes faster flight times by using secondary airports, the ability to arrive 15 min before departure, no security checkpoints, no baggage fees, free parking/city shuttles, free lounges, and free in-flight light meals. As a result, their flights are sold at a premium price.

J1 operates routes with no competition. They use major airports, which requires passengers to go through security, pay for parking, go through baggage check, etc. Plus, they don't offer as many premium on-board services. As a result, their prices tend to be fairly cheap.

J1 needs Ultimate in order to operate their flights and improve reliability. Often times UE's flights leave ahead of schedule, in comparison to J1, whose flights are very often delayed and/or cancelled. I don't think merging the brands is going to happen soon because you would need to cannibalize one of the airlines ops. The flights at LUK would not work under J1's model and the ops at PIT can't legally work under UE's model.

Less than what everyone thinks. It appears that Public Charters IATA code changes from P1 to 4P on June 1. Ultimate Air Shuttle branded flights are sold using Publiccharters.com code. So are Northern Country Sky branded flights (MBL), Texas Sky branded flights (VCT), and Regional Sky branded flights (AVP-PIT). It appears that when the 4P flights were loaded for June 1 and beyond, the P1 flights were deleted for all time (i.e. before June 1 and beyond).

J1 is not really involved except that some of its flights will be operated by Ultimate Air Charters in June. J1 flights are not sold through Public Charters, so the 4P code doesn't apply.

However, the Ultimate brand flights actually operate with the UE/UJC codes, not with the public charters code. They were showing up as UE for a little bit of time last year, not really sure why they continue to file the routes under public charters. Looking at their website, there is not even a way to book the Ultimate flights through public charters.

Yup. None of these flights are new. Just swapping the P1 code or 4P for the mix of airlines which piggyback on that code.

Victoria and Manistee are EAS routes already running for some time now.
Wilkes Barre-Pittsburgh is a newish unsubsidized service launched a few weeks back for business travelers.
The Cincinnati LUK flights are just an extension of the existing Ultimate schedule.

OneJet (J1) flights are exetending the schedule forward

CVGComair is definitely right that Ultimate will start operating PIT to Indy and Hartford in June, taking over from Contour. But that isn't reflected in these -- today it's OneJet J1 operated by Contour and starting 6/11 it will be OneJet J1 operate by Ultimate on those routes. J1 before and after.

I think there is a chance because they are a public charter, OAG doesn't handle that very well. I went to their website and the schedules haven't really changed. OAK-LAS/RNO was upped to current frequency level a couple of weeks ago.

AA JFK-BDA DEC 1.4>1.0 JAN 1.2>1.0 FEB 1.5>1.0

at this rate, AA will probably cancel BDA in a year.

I see DL attempting to see what Caribbean markets will work from JFK, B6 just has such a loyal following for many many years now. ANU service 1-2 times a month is really nothing, but it might hint at some success. All I ever see is AA cutting in JFK it seems.

The B6 add for CLT is solid, strengthening a competitive market, good sign.

Regarding DL cutting TPA nonstop from DTW down to 3. Even though that is the least demand time for Florida, there are still multi millions of residents here, it's not always tourism. Those flights are always packed and DL cuts RSW/TPA/FLL/MIA during summer into fall forcing fares up and connections over ATL.

I wonder if this is somehow tied to the opening of the new concourse this summer.

WN will be announcing their new schedule release within the next week, so it’ll be interesting if they uptick a few frequencies at CLT as well. I think B6 and WN both have one dedicated gate at CLT but from my understanding all gates in the new concourse will be CUTE.

totally agreed, seeing some actions from DL recently on adding to some Caribbean markets like KIN and now intro to ANU. Realistically, B6 get much higher margins than DL in all of these routes due to the lower cost. But with AA continuing to cut back, there is probably room for some more DL adds given that B6 is running out of slots at hours people want to actually fly.

It's kind of a puzzle to me B6 has taken this long to add to CLT given how well they are doing there.

With regard to Antigua at least, B6 has only been serving ANU since 2015. And year end numbers for 2016 (the most recent full year numbers I have), B6 carried the least passengers on ANU-NYC of the three carriers serving the market nonstop. AA carried 70K, UA 47K, B6 38K.

Indeed. B6 has A4 dedicated to themselves and WN is on A6 but RONs on A4 because B6 first plane doesn’t get in until 9am. I read 2 of the 9 gates will be CUTE. Again, that could be wrong. So please don’t quote me on that. I also read that WN was picking up another gate.

UA 4 B6 1, F9 1 WN 1 dedicated gate. Then WN will be getting access to 1 of the CUTE gates and Via Air will have the last one. I hope Via stays on the current Acon.

So, they show as operating in January and March and then gone in April. Nothing filed after that, although that is the end of the 330 day window anyway. Not clear if it is an error or they are gone. It would be unusual for an intl carrier to announce leaving a market that far in advance, so I suspect they are not leaving.

They just received their part 135 certificate (I think so that they can operate the PIT-AVP flight), so they are chaining their name to "Public Charters, Inc. dba Regional Sky" and their IATA code is being switched to 4P.

One summer B6 tried 5x BOS-CLT. It was amazing frequency and the 6am CLT-BOS was well received- I was in it frequently and it was one of the better performing. Once summer was over it was down to two and no one at the station knew why it wasn't at least 3x. I think part of the problem was B6 was half the size they are now in Boston. They could easily do 4x and steal more guests from AA.

I didn't know this route was that light in the fall!

Looks like the summer experiment worked out. No reason not to have more than one carrier on this route.

Do they take feed from AS or B6? Seems like they should stick to west coast of NA instead of the YVR-JFK flight from the loads.

Nice uptick - they only ran 2 daily last year.

Thanks Enilria!
CLT-BOS has been no more than 2x for the entirety of my ticket-buying time. JFK has had a similarly terrible schedule For a long time. This is the first time B6 has increased a frequency to Charlotte in YEARS

DFW-VCT??? Seems like an odd one.

MBL-MDW? Chicago seasonal service? Seems like the wrong end of town for the summer house crowd.

MBL-MDW operates year round. This flight has been operating for a few years. As Enilria says this has to do with the code changes. The code before this was P1. Flights are operated by CFM as North Country Sky.

From LA? Yeah, LAS is high yield. Nobody wants to drive it. It's miserable. I routinely pay $200-275 to fly LAXLAS. I've never once driven it.

That's because we cannot get our act together in this country anymore. This is an ideal route for a bullet train, but I question whether we will ever see something like that here, because of the billions of dollars it will cost, when it shouldn't.

First time I've ever seen increases for G4 on here. Schedule extension? They usually seem to be cutting continuously.
PIT/CVG-SJU returning seems like big news.

Gratias tibi ago...!

UA has scaled back its EWR ANU. DL seems to be increasing its foot print into the Caribbean. This winter there will be B6, BW, DL and OJ on the JFK KIN. I don't think that route has ever seen so many carriers.
