I thought SIN-NRT is going to be the first? Flight leaves SIN at 0545 local time...

Are they all debuting at the same time? If so it'd be impressive!

They were all over the safety video this morning, the crew kept checking them out. The purple color seems weird

Why would they? Do you think this is the first time Lands' End has made a coat or pair of pants?

It was actually quite shocking on the video to see the uniform design typically lasted 3 years but then they had the same design from 1983-2001

Hopefully these uniforms last only a few years. Personally, if I worked for DL, I wouldn't feel like putting on a Barney colored outfit every single day just to go to work. I wouldn't feel professional serving customers in these outfits, and based on some of the grumbling I've overheard in the galleys on recent flights, many Delta employees feel the same way - one FA's young daughter would not stop laughing at the fact that this is what her mom now has to wear to work.

Because the last major US airline uniform debut resulted in a lot of health related complaints...THAT'S WHY!!

And yet a scroll of Instagram shows people proudly showing off their new uniforms and how much they like them - #newuniform

So it appears as always mixed reviews and can’t keep everyone happy. DL seems very focused on employee engagement, I’m sure they wouldn’t be rolling out a uniform that wouldn’t go down well with the majority of employees. They have a 5 part mini docu on their YouTube, seems they made hundreds of changes following the wear tests.

Other airlines have had problems. AA the most notable. And the chemicals used to treat uniforms in the manufacturing process to meet longevity requirements and other specs are not the same as as a pair of pants you would buy.

Passport Plum!

I think they’ll look great.

I’m curious, were any design changes made after the trial period?

While I don't dislike them based on the YouTube videos, purple and grey are interesting color choices as they're not colors immediately identifiable with Delta Air Lines. Uniforms, in theory, are an extension of a company's branding. Seeing employees walk through an airport in these uniforms will not make them recognizable as Delta employees versus WOW or some other airline. Hard to follow up on the signature red dress, I suppose.

Yes, several. Many of them were a bit subtle, but one of the most noticeable to the men's uniform is that they darkened the gray much to everyone's relief including my own.

The women aren't too thrilled about the new uniform, and I honestly don't blame them. Many of them have made comparisons to Stepford Wives meets Austin Powers meets Willy Wonka. However, we all found out later that they can wear the men's uniform under the condition they wear it for at least one year.

Agreed. I don't love this new collection but I don't necessarily hate it either. What really bothers me is how off-brand the colours are.

All my friends like it and look really good. It seems to be a trend the ones that look bad in the blue are most villa about the plum. It looks amazing on many. And just like the prior uniform looks bad on some so naturally they won’t like it. They can no longer hide from the public. I think the color was deliberate. Purple has always been a DL teritiary color.

People always post the pictures they don’t like it’s purple people act like they invented a color. It’s actually darker in person, but we do know they made red blue yellow and green telly tubies. Go back to the comments form when the red dress came out everyone had something to say lol. People don’t like change

Oh ugh! No way. Just say no! The female FA’s should NOT be able to wear the men’s uniform! No no no! They will look like they did in the awful Leo Mullin era gray, boxy uniforms.

Wasn’t there something about the lapel on the men’s jacket?

Will there be pink versions for breast cancer awareness month?

Thanks for sharing. I hadn't watched those yet. It's cool to hear that Posen is an avgeek too.

I know that new uniforms are always almost universally reviled, but I'm still not really sure about the purple. The men's grey suit turned out looking sharp though.

This makes me miss flying DL out of LAX. I'm now in an outstation without DL service and I haven't been able to fly DL in months.

1) Some women can pull it off, but I stress the word "some" in this case.

2) The lapels seem to be fine. I ordered the ones with them in it. The epaulets which I think you're referring to instead used to be on the male IFS blazer, but they ditched it as they thought it had too much of a military reference.

3) Yes! There will be pink variations of the circa 2018 uniform. As these uniforms were unveiled in October 2016, it really begged the question of how we'd honor breast cancer awareness.

https://news.delta.com/runway-concourse ... -zac-posen

Overall I have no real qualms about the new uniform now that they have darkened the gray for us men (there's really no way I'm dry cleaning the blazer constantly). The overall consensus in ACS is that the dress code is a bit draconian, especially towards the women. My only real gripe is that according to management, the vest can't be worn as an outer garment year round. That may change in the future, however.

Judging by this picture, I like the female dress, but the guy’s outfit is terrible. Please tell me Delta is paying for them to get their uniforms tailored? I’m sure they do. If so, this guy needs to get in there ASAP. If the company pays for it, it should be required to get your outfit fitted/tailored. That is one of he problems I have with United pilots/FAs... In United’s case, the company will pay for fitting/tailoring, but people are just too damn lazy to go do it. As a result, they look like sh*t. Kinda like this guy on the left. But, as I said, I like the look of the female dress much more than I did when they were first unveiled.

I think they look fantastic -- when tailored. Also hope the female FAs have the option of something more practical... wonderful though they look in all of the pieces.

The uniforms themselves, particularly the female uniforms, look great in terms of style and cut. I'm still not entirely sold on the purple, but seeing them in action, I do like the overall look.

I saw several crews in DTW this AM when I landed and have to say, most of them seemed cool with them, as I overheard many FAs talking about them. I'm not keen on the color either, but the crews I saw clearly all had gone through a fitting and they were sharp looking.

The style is fine, but the color just strikes me as odd.

But it's nigh impossible to fit thousands of people to the 95% body percentile all while looking stylish and being functional and durable.

Because:
Bastian said Delta conducted a study and found that even frequent travelers could not pick out Delta’s uniformed employees from United’s and American’s.

“It’s a sea of navy out there with a lot of domestic carriers,” said Delta employee Chad Holmes.

With the new uniforms and the plum color, Bastian said: “We want to stand out. We want to make a statement.”

https://www.ajc.com/business/delta-roll ... Ir5j8hAcJ/

I overall like the new color and uniforms though I think I would have gone with a "darker plum" (But no one asked :spin: ). Also I think they should offer the men's with a dark plum dress shirt as well, I think it would look sharp and be a nice departure and addition. (something like this:)

Even during the widget livery era, I did and do not associate Plum color with Delta. So do the pilots get the light grey uniforms? Didn't UA pilots used to have grey uniforms too?

I believe Delta is the only airline in the US with a double-breasted jacket for pilots. Also, hats are mandatory.

The DL pilot uniform has been unchanged for decades, with the exception of the widget on the wings and hat brass, which changed color to match current branding.

My guess is they wanted all females in one color and all males in one. If DL would have gone all red it would have been almost identical to VS, also it would deem their redcoat program (customer service supervisor as irrelevant). Guys its not the end of the world, there are ways the company can incorporate the color into their branding if they believe it is the right decision. Who says that uniforms have to be the same color as the company's primary colors? What about Southwest airlines their interior (old and new) do not match their colors that definitely do not match their uniforms (old and new).

For men, not so much. The blazer for IFS originally was supposed to have epaulets on the shoulders, but that changed as the wear testers claimed it had too much of a military look. I personally liked it, though I would never get to wear it. It's now with or without a lapel, I went with the former.

As for the women, inflight have their own exclusive dress as well as ACS (ground staff), the latter of the two have a red trim around the torso. I saw several of my female coworkers wearing it earlier today at the ticket counter and at the gates. I gotta say it looked sharp on them.

However, there is a pink version of the IFS exclusive dress that will be shared with ACS for the first time ever.

The only way to really distinguish is with the name bars, just like it was with the previous uniform collection.
