Very creative safety video. I wasn’t digging that dark mustard color men’s uniform 1979-1982.

After seeing that mustard brown, I don't think I'll ever complain about the passport plum. :vomit:

Also, I'm glad to see that we're well past the point of those cringe-worthy safety videos filled with comedic skits and/or viral internet references.

I'm no DL fan boy (not that I dislike them either), but I have to say that was one heck of a classy safety video. From a technical standpoint, I loved the mix of modern set design and graphics contrasting with the historical uniforms.

I am just surprised they didn't use the iconic red wrap dress for the 2007-2017 period or at least a black pantsuit with a white blouse with the red V ascot. I rarely saw women wear the black wrap dress they did use and it's not visually appealing to look at on video.

It also would have been fun if all the crew members were lined up together at the end in their period uniforms, but that's just the former broadcast production assistant in me!

Delta use to have some of the best safety videos along with UA and now this is pretty lame compared to back in the days....

Better than the last one they were using were it seemed like the employees doing the video had little to no interest in doing the video.

Very classy video. I agree that a better example of the last period uniform could've been used but overall, wow, way to set the bar. Well done Delta.

Deltalina was just a classic.....I do agree the red dress should've been represented in this line up....but the video does set the new standard.Delta knows how to put on a show

Four minutes is quite long, but at least in this video, all the information is relevant. The latest version from Qantas is a full seven minutes long  - it also includes a great deal of irrelevant rubbish; like Australians jumping into a swimming pool in Singapore, or singing round a Campfire in Chile. Delta's is far clearer and more concise, and I personally find longer "cool" safety videos harder to pay attention to than those which are short and to the point, but lacking any fanfare.

Agreed, they'll probably just take their time to taxi out in these cases. In EYW they pretty much play the whole video as they start the engines and there's maybe a minute left by the time we even start the taxi.

Delta. Truly a class act. They acknowledge their proud history by the display of the different uniforms, which I think are so interesting. I continue to admire them, as I have for the past 40 years spent at a competitor. We don't come close to having their corporate culture (or WN's), and we never will.

I assume from your username you’re with American, and former Ozark and TWA. The problem with AA now is the culture has been destroyed by the US merger. American Airlines is American in name only. I’ve been with AA for 29 years, first job out of college. They were my first choice, and I was so proud to work for them. The years of Bob Crandall were truly our golden age, we had the best of everything in the 80s and 90s, and we were feared by our competitors. I remember we had mottos like “QuAAlity from the Ground Up” and our emphasis was always on offering the best product possible. Now it’s US Airways- cut service to nothing, and with it went the morale of the legacy AA employees. One only need to look at the horrific configuration of the 737 Max to see how humanity and service have been lost, and it falls on the deaf ears of the bean counters. We’re no longer leaders in the industry, we’re reticent followers who wait and see what Delta is doing, and maybe a year later, we’ll do the same, if it doesn’t cost too much. The general consensus when I tell people I meet that I work for AA is, “they used to be good.” It’s almost a universal reaction from everyone I meet.

Videos come on right before push-back, it's no problem. FAs love it so they don't have to do anything but stand in the aisle.

I wonder if we'll finally get rid of EXIT/SALIDA signs for all green world standard exit signs. All the re-hauled 757s, A321s, and A350s have them.

Does the uniform color shift signal a rebranding for Delta away from Red, White and Blue to a more neutral (and less nationalistic) color scheme for the airline?

No.

Ed said they went with the decision to be more bold uniform-wise to stand out from other US carriers and be seen as a world player. It won't change the brand but compliment it. Which he has a point, since everyone else likes to stick with Red/White/Blue.

It's pretty amazing how quickly fashion evolved from 1965 to the late 70's, and how many different uniform styles they went through. I'm not really a Delta fan but I think this honors their history very well, and it makes watching a safety video so much more interesting. And I think their newest uniform is a refreshing break from the blues and grays that everyone else uses.

I still think AA is good. When you live in Chicago and see UA issues on the news on a regular basis (dragging passengers off the plane, dogs not making it safely to a destination, etc.), it makes AA look like a class act. Don't get my wife started about how rude UA CSAs are at EWR.

Let's remember one thing about Doug Parker. His first job was at AA, when Bob Crandall was CEO. I seem to remember, when Parker & Co. were courting the unions to push for the merger, there was a repeated question about dragging AA down to US standards. Parker's response was that US's route system couldn't generate the kind of premium revenue that AA's did, and that the combined carrier would be more like AA than US.

My wife flew ORD-LHR-ORD last fall, going eastbound on BA and westbound on AA. She was shocked as to how poor the service and meals were on BA, and how the service and food on AA were vastly superior. We had flown BA to LHR a couple of years earlier, and BA's service and food has seriously declined.

As for the 737MAX, everyone likes to complain. I remember my father complaining as to the extra legroom, when AA did MRTC. It still wasn't as roomy as when AA started taking delivery of 727s in the mid 1960s. Right, and when you adjust for inflation, a plane ticket in the 1960s was far more expensive than in 2000.

I just flew USA-Japan-USA in the past two weeks on DL and probably saw the video five times, except for the final LAX-LAS leg on the 717. It was a nice honor to the past, though I prefer to look at the card, even though I flew the aircraft type as a crew member for many years. Personally, new crew uniforms aren't near the top of my must-see list. However, seeing the old uniforms was fun...

Calling it now, though it’s been stated here’s no plans for a livery change, it’ll probably be blue and white... I hope not. Red has been one of their colors for as long as they’ve been around. It’d be ashamed to throw it away like LH ditching the yellow, or Austrian’s light blue.

Nope. There are red winter coats as part of the FA uniform to wear over the purple dress. The purple ties are all-red Delta logos.

A client and I were waiting at a gate yesterday as a crew of three FAs arrived for our flight. The two females we wearing purple dresses and the male was wearing the suit. This crew was exceptionally attractive and their uniforms were crisp and well-fitting. We honestly did a double-take. They looked flawless and VERY fashionable. Absolutely stunning and unexpected for a US airline.

A few takeaways this moment offered me:
They look far better in person than in photos
Fit is critical
Attention to detail is as well (Tie should be tight, jackets buttoned, minimal "pins" and badges.)
No uniform will look good on all body types, but these uniforms look amazing on fit employees.
The colors lend a sophistication and warmth that decades of blue and red have brainwashed us to not expect
The plum is being used in SkyClubs now as well, creating a bit more cohesion of brand.
The not-so-subtle tie in with Virgin Atlantic noticeable.

I was on the fence on these until yesterday. Now I can see where they are going with this. It is yet another move to differentiate the airline from the competition and elevate the brand to world class. It is amazing to think how far Delta has come in a decade. Kudos.

This safety video is world class. Delta sets the standard (at least for the US3) again. What a great way to highlight the new uniforms. I like many others had my doubts about the new uniform colors but now that they are out there, I have warmed up to them very quickly. It's a huge way to differentiate from, how should I say, the 'boring' navy blue that is the standard of a lot of other airlines. Kudos again to Delta for stepping up.

Delta shows how a US3 airline can compete on the world stage. It's my hope that AA and UA will follow soon.

I did in post #30 ;)

I guess they have a whole bunch of these cards lying around in some warehouse which obviously won't be used on an aircraft again. I'll bet we'll see 747 cards used as props in DL safety videos for the foreseeable future. It's a nice (probably unintentional) homage to the Queen.
