Fiji Airways named as Oneworld connect partner

Sun Jun 03, 2018 6:43 am

Fiji Airways named as oneworld connect partner - a new membership category for the alliance.

Under the new oneworld Connect tier, members will offer priority check-in and boarding for OW elites, however other elite benefits such as lounge access, the mileage earning/burn may be limited on a carrier by carrier basis.

Oneworld Connect brings Fiji Airways into the fold

Suppose makes sense as FJ already has relations with AA, CX, QF and soon BA.

Basically the OW equivilent of *A connecting oartners. I wonder If ST is next to come up with a equivilent scheme? VS/VA would be good candidiates

I don’t think that status still exists in Star Alliance. They used to have regional members, but they have become full members.

:checkmark: :checkmark:

Especially since several of them (e.g. Tyrolean) either got absorbed into bigger members, or repurposed.

Bets on the next airline to get this status? I'd say AT.

A logical move since the OW’s airlines CEO admitted in Sydney, where the IATA Annual General Assembly is taking place, most of the big airlines are already in one of the three alliances.

Star Alliance connecting partners was introduced in 2017. Juneyao Airlines is the first and only member so far.

Main differences between oneworld Connect and Star Alliance Connecting Partner Model:

*G benefits on connecting itineraries only, ie., same ticket connecting to a full member flight.
No RTW participation with *A CPM.
Status earning not compulsory between full member and connecting partner.
No benefits for connecting partner FFP members.

It does appear that oneworld Connect is the superior model. Let's see if *A will improve its offering.

I wonder, if Alaska Airlines will join the new Oneworld connect as well.
ATL, AYT, FRA, FUE, HEL, JFK, LCA, LHR, MUC | AY, BA, DL, FH, LH, LO | A320, A321, A333, 752, 764, 772, 788
The word "Quawer" means nothing but it looks great.

But rediculous that it took this long, doesn’t QF own 50% of FJ? I know they tried to sell a few years ago but the Fijian government made it very difficult.

I'm assuming the "connect" members would still be able to largely keep most (if not all) their partnerships outside of their respective alliances?
EI and AS are strong Oneworld connect candidates.

9W, VS and VA are candidates for the Skyteam connection equivalent if SkyTeam decides to establish one.

My money is on EI being announced as the next oneworld connect airline.
I only turn left when boarding aircraft. Well, mostly. All right, sometimes. OH OKAY - rarely.

I concur. I suspect EI, 4O and possibly PG will be the next connect partners. AT and CZ will be the next full partners.

Can't wait for EI to partner up. The nonsense of really being able to only connect through LHR and pay the UK "pound of flesh" taxes is really annoying.

But this thread is not about EI it is about FJ and yes, it has been painfully slow in coming. I can't for the life of me work out why. But good to see it happening for a growing transpacific airline.

EI, 4O, VY, IB*LEVEL, MN, BE seem quite possible. AS as well (Explorers fare partner) but they are connected with many carriers from other airlines *and EK* so not sure.
Still believe AT will become a full member first. I’d imagine IG would go full-member first as well.

Didn’t they announce something like this was in planning a WHILE ago?

Ooh. PG is interesting. Very varied as you the alliances they partner with, but CX,JL,MH,QRand/or QF could sponsor. Hell, BA could do a sponsor like with Fiji their partnership was nonexistent and then all of a sudden they became a sponsor.

Connecting passengers don't pay APD
