Anyone serving MIA-IAD?
Once AA quits on Dec 19, will no airline be serving MIA-IAD? Two majors, hub at each end, quite surprising. I wonder if UA will pick this up since AA is leaving.

AA will remain on the route, they are only dropping a daily American Eagle frequency.

It is surprising that UA has 5 or more EWR-MIA flights and none from IAD. EWR-FLL has about 8 daily flights but IAD-FLL has 2 flights. EWR tends to be O/D based and it is amazing how much more O/D exists to Florida from EWR than IAD for UA. AA dominates the Washington DC to Miami market with many flights from DCA.

There are only 1 stops available for sale on AA from 12/21 through the end of their loaded schedule in May 2019, where are you getting that there will still be non-stops? There are still 4 daily IAD-FLL though on UA and WN.

Looks like I stand (very) corrected. The 2x daily run until the 18th and they both drop simultaneously.

Judging by the flight numbers, the Swift Air flights are ferries.
It’s hard to tell what routes Frontier keeps anymore so I don’t know if MIA-IAD was dropped seasonally or for good.

IAD has historically not had the same service levels to Florida as other Northeast airports like PHL, EWR, JFK, LGA and BOS. When I lived in Fairfax County in 1986 and we wanted to travel to Florida, TPA or MCO, we would most times fly New York Air, who had a somewhat hub at IAD, to EWR and connect to a Florida flight. Sometimes we flew nonstop, but it was always from DCA. Even Eastern, who dominated Northeast-Florida, pretty much avoided IAD for most of it's existence except a couple years here and there that they did fly to IAD (from ATL).

The go-to airport for S. Florida service from the D.C region is DCA. AA has on average 9 flights a day on DCA-MIA and WN and B6 also have sizable DCA-FLL operations

IAD is the JFK of 20 years ago. Or the MXP of today.
To fix that, they need a LCC to start a large operation there. Then, and only then, will UA match domestic (in DCA perimeter) service to its hub

IAD-Florida is pretty anemic on the whole.
Outside of MIA, today there's:
IAD-MCO - UA x4 320/737, WN x 1 737
IAD-TPA - UA x3 737
IAD-FLL - UA x2 737, WN x1 737
IAD-JAX - UAX x3 CR7/E45
Granted, it's not peak season to FL, but it's pretty incredible how almost all the traffic flows out of DCA and BWI.
Outside of MIA, today there's:
IAD-MCO - UA x4 320/737, WN x 1 737
IAD-TPA - UA x3 737
IAD-FLL - UA x2 737, WN x1 737
IAD-JAX - UAX x3 CR7/E45

Back in the UA MIA hub days, there's was an scheduled IAD-MIA-IAD and its major propose was to feed UA flights on both airports.
BTW, with AV and CM flights at MIA, UA could even somewhat manage feed (regional jet) UA MIA-IAD flight.
