So TK looses 2 planes in the past few months. LH just lost another plane to a fire......Is there a pattern i'm missing here?

Any news on D-AIFA? Where at FRA is she parked? As she won’t return to service I wonder if part out and scrapping has begun.

According to my friend she is parked at LH Technik all hidden between A/Cs parked there. I believe she will be scrapped.

It appears the fire burned through the skin and into the fuselage. I can't imagine that it would only be minor damage. Anyone enlighten us otherwise?

No minor damage. The aircraft is done. From what I hear they are waiting for the insurance to get their stuff done and then it will be scrapped.

Someone urgently needed a piece of window belt ?

Doubt it. If it was for better access they would have made a higher opening, I guess... but what I do know, haven't scrapped that many A340's in my life... ;-)

The remainder of the A/C is located on LHT premises so Fraport doesn't care.

And they use it for funny stuff. There has just been a tank rescue training. You typically don't do that with A/C you still want to fly ;) Not sure though where the windows went

From the picture I would say the aircraft is stored behind LH's "butterfly hangars", correct? More or less this location, correct?

I'd say the scrapping has finished!

No engines
No wheels
No interior
No flaps

Anything else?

That hole is to remove monuments and premium seats.

You can see it on Google Maps, behind the big hanger with the flared corners.

I would appreciate it if you could give some more detail about where the aircraft is, thanks!

I assume it is on the "south side" where all the LT buildings seem to be. On the left hand edge of the buildings is the A380 Maintenance hanger - can you "drive me" from there to the A340!

Well, that doesn't do it for me. I understood that Google Maps for FRA was so up-to-date that the burned A340 was visible (Post 222)

The link from ei146 does not show any A340, maybe it just shows the area as photographed some time ago, well before the burned aircraft was towed there. The aircraft in the linked Google Map show a couple of A330s and 2 A32x, no A340

Weird. I see a STAR ALLIANCE painted A340, parked next to an A330, when I click that link.

Exactly, it just shows the location but it’s not an up-to-date picture.

Maybe it’s different from country to country but if I start google maps I can see D-AIFA.

PS.: it‘s not in the southern part of FRA but I am too tired to give you a better guidance right now... I drank what you have in your profile picture... :-)

I am able to retrieve both versions, yours and the one with a 3D model of the burned aircraft. I think you might have to toggle a setting. Go to the menu option on the top left corner, and enable "Globe". A shot in the dark, see if that's your issue... :crossfingers:

Apologies, I don't know how to post a maps link, but several posts have noted the hanger its behind. once you see the A340 click to 3D mode and just move down to an almost side view of the aircraft, the scorch marks are clearly visible.

I understand you cant see any A340 when you lick the link, but others have noted they can, so maybe go to FRA manually on Maps and find the hanger beside the A gates. If not, maybe maps updates are location based? but I can definitely see it.

A Lufthansa Airbus A340 was damaged after a fire broke out on a truck towing the widebody jet at Germany's Frankfurt Airport on Monday.

There must be multiple versions of the views out there. While I do see an A340 in Star Alliance livery, it is absolutely intact. No scorch marks whatsoever.

The damaged Star Alliance 340 is exactly where the google map location is.
I know because I drove past it on Monday.

No, not exactly, but nearly. Just move the google picture a bit to the right. AIFA is located exactly on the spot, where on the google image the A330 is parked.
What I know is that AIFA will be gone by the end of February.
