Must have been scary seeing the plane drift off the runway from inside!

Wow very interesting video. Definitely must have been a bit scary for all onboard. I wonder what caused it - hydroplaning perhaps?

Makes me wonder if this is a case similar to the DL accident at LGA where rudder authority / reverse thrust issues come to play

Scary. And a proof of clapping after touchdown has no point...if you want to clap do it when the door is open at the gate.

I was going to say the same thing. They start to loose control when the reversers are at their max it sounds likes. Due to the Delta incident, the reverser EPR limits on the MD-80s have been drastically reduced. On our fleet, on a wet runway, nothing above idle reverse is permitted, and they are definitely above idle reverse, on a wet runway.

You bet they are with only 400 m of the runway left...

Always have to laugh at these videos where people clap, and then a few seconds later, plane is off of the runway. Never got the point of clapping.

I was expecting a bunch of elderly tourists in a bus stopping at the end of a runway, with a nice little buffet set up and wicker chairs.

I'm not sure about being "ok" - are the main wheels still attached? It doesn't appear so.

1) I must express my extreme disappointment with this community for not having started a debate as to whether the aircraft will be a W/O or repaired. We're 13 replies in, for crying out loud.

2) It seems to me as if the rate of deceleration after touchdown was pretty low. They had been down for approximately ten seconds before the deviation began. I also found it odd that as the deviation began, the crew seemed to cancel reverse thrust. Yet at the time they departed the runway, they didn't appear to be going much slower than they were at touchdown.

People clap (use to be very common in the US) due to all of the crashes back in the 70s and 80s! People were just grateful to get on the ground.

Obviously, the clapping was ummm a tad premature this time, but at least they made it to the ground.

wow. on visuals alone, the plane hardly appears to have scrubbed any speed at all while on the airstrip.
that must have been terribly frightening, and lucky that the aircraft didn't get further out of control.
