Re: AA's Upgauges to Mainline: More to Come?

If AA does weekend upgauging, it's due to aircraft flying football charters. This was a while back, but I was flying MIA-ORD on a Monday. The plane was scheduled to be a 757. But, a 763 arrived from ORD for the turn. One of the F/As explained that because of the number of 757s that get used for college football charters over the weekend, AA swaps aircraft. Typically, if there is a spare 763, that will get swapped in for a 757.

One of the PHX-TUS flights is an A319. They've operated the A319 on that route before, but it's still cool to think of riding on an A319 for that short of a flight.

Would be nice if AA upgraded SFOLAX to mainline,

That actually might have been true a couple years ago, but most charter flights for college football are mostly on the A321. Actually most of all charter flights outside of NFL are mostly on the A321 now.

With the current schedule, SFOLAX sees 2 daily 738's.

It looks like American’s mainline upgauging at ORD to smaller markets is increasing.

Doing a radom search on April 5th:

IND increasss to 3 mainline flights using the 738.

CMH increases to 2 mainline flights using the 738.

SYR now has 1 mainline flight using the 738. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s been while since any upstate NY cities have seen mainline from ORD on AA.

Also, it’s interesting to note that DFW will have 4 787 departures a day from ORD, with 3 787-8 and 1 787-9.

Oddly though, BNA lost mainline to ORD as of March. Wonder what happened?

I noticed that, too. I honestly don’t see how BNA can’t support mainline?

It's really odd considering surrounding airports such as RDU, MSY, CMH, STL and even IND have 737's and/or A319's to ORD. I was going to say maybe it's perhaps due to the WN focus city at BNA, but STL has an even bigger WN focus city and yet, it can support several AA 737's to ORD. Yes, STL is a former AA hub, but so is BNA. This is a head scratcher for sure, you'd think they'd want to better compete with UA/WN on the Nashville-Chicago route.

So, I saw rumors that AA has less widevody domestic service than UA&DL. Is there any data that you have to back/oppose the statement?

CMH-ORD actually gets mainline beginning in February.
