New Airline announcement at STL 6/26

Mon Jun 25, 2018 7:25 pm

STL is announcing a new airline tomorrow. Any guesses?

I would assume it is Spirit since Madison has one tomorrow also and they don't have Spirit either (not that they are going to each other).

Too early for a European announcement. Jetblue might be the other option.

We’ve got some exciting news to share! Tomorrow at 10:00 am CST, we’ll be announcing a new airline coming to STL. Any guesses??? #stlairport

It's on a Tuesday.

Allegiant usually announces new routes on Tuesdays.

G4 has moved into similar cities like CLE, PIT, IND, BNA, and MEM - even if it meant that it was close to an existing station. (If YNG could go away, so could BLV.)

MSN does not have G4 service either, and fits the original small market G4 profile, which is staying in addition to midsize cities.

You connect the dots.

Hmmm Jetblue or Spirit? Possibly Volaris?

I really doubt that it will be Allegiant. Allegiant has been doing very well at BLV. I’m assuming it will be Spirit or JetBlue.

Q0 am CST, so it will be at 11am CDT?? ;) Hopefully it is an announcement worthy of the production and not some lame-o one lol.
Riddle: Which lasts longer, a start-up airline or a start-up football league?

Sun Country's twitter just announced they have announcements this week. Acted like it would be Wednesday but they have a dot on Tuesday also.

There is no way it is G4. They keep adding flights at BLV. They aren't moving or adding STL.

People said the exact same thing about G4 at YNG prior to adding CLE and PIT. G4 isn't at YNG anymore.

And let's not rule out the use of incentives to get an airline to switch airports. While rare, it does happen.

Maybe Condor to take advantage of Monsanto Bayer and to help expedite the rate at which the American jobs all move to Germany

Instead of typing in "mods", consider using the report function.
Love how every "travel blogger" says they will never fly AA/Ethihad again and then says it again and again on subsequent flights.

I have been under the impression that STL is fine with G4 at BLV and at the very least won't offer incentives for them to move. If they come then sure, but isn't going to try to steal them. I'll just say I will be shocked if it is G4. But I have been wrong before plenty of times.

Hold on, didn't sun country previously fly to STL - meaning they would not be a "new" airline - Or am I being too specific here?

If it's Sun Country (but I don't think that it is), I would presume that they'd fly to vacation-oriented destinations such as MCO (most likely), or into Mexico airports such as, PVR, CUN, SJD, etc.

If I was a betting man. I'd say Sun Country. They have several teasers out, and the midwest is a natural area for them to expand in.

Now that would be a great replacement for Alaska dropping it's PDX-STL route! :D
Unfortunately, I don't see that ever happening.

Hey, I never expected SEA-ANC or PDX-MCO. Am I not being too far-fetched to imagine a new pacific nw airline haha. Maybe they could add SEA-PDX and make the SEA passengers connect through PDX to get to STL to get back at Alaska dumping STL-PDX in favor of increasing STL-SEA

They also follow a bunch of airlines they don't have though (although not Spirit). So it could just be someone tweeted them something about Sun Country today so then they started following them assuming they actually just did, if you also follow them they will pop to the top of the list, it was buried down in the middle for me.

For a long time SY has ignored the obvious MSP-STL-CUN/MSP-IND-CUN markets. I too believe this is an SY announcement.

They could be taking over more Apple Vacations or FUNJET flying as well

Odd, it was the first one at the very top for me when I looked, only reason I posted about it, otherwise wouldn't have made the same connection.

I'm pretty sure that Alaska dropped the route because of a shortage of E175's as well as pilot shortages, and the demand (apparently) just isn't there for a Boeing 737 route. Note that Southwest and Alaska's business models are competently different from one another. If Southwest had E175s, than they would probably be in a similar situation.

Good point, especially now that swift has to fly 767s and STL isn't exactly a 767 market - at least not to the Carribean.

Would STL br hyping this up if it was just Sun Country taking over the Apple and Funjet routes? IIRC they've switched operators before without much fanfare.

I agree with this. STL hardly ever hypes anything. Even new routes they sometimes take a day or more to say something about. So I don't think it is just them taking over apple vacation routes.

One of the local new stations is reporting that flights will start later this year. So that probably rules out any European options. I don't see them starting in winter.

Still seems like Spirit or Sun Country. I'll still throw in JetBlue as an outlier.

They did way back in the day when they had the 727’s and DC10’s.. from what I remember it was mostly funjet charter stuff.

Yawn. I just hope they're offering service to new destinations. If it's just LAS and MCO, then it was a lot of hype and fanfare for nothing.

Yeah, at least it wasn't MCO I guess. I go to TPA once in awhile but still hard to get excited about 2x a week. I was hoping for someplace new or PHX or something that didn't have 3 airlines on it already (although PHX does but I go there more).
