Anyone know why Avianca has a mothballed 787 in BOG?

Thanks, adamblang, for the topic/thread cite.

I did see other AV 787s in service at BOG. Why was this particular 787 out of service? What, specifically, is the issue with the engines?

The issue with the RR Trent engines is related to corrosion on the fan blades — airlines are now required to frequently inspect all their fan blades for certain kinds of corrosion (and the associated cracking). If any is discovered, they need to replace the affected blades. Because so many engines (25% of the global 787 fleet) are affected, there's a global shortage of the fan blades — plus, RR was at first dedicating more fan blades to new engines for BA deliveries rather than to replacing ones in service (this has since changed, but means the delays were even larger).

A permanent fix for the issue is expected later this year, until then the inspection-related delays and potential groundings will continue.
