Southwest has their 50th birthday on a couple years. For their 25th, they painted a 737 all silver for their 'silver jubilee'. Has anyone heard what they might do for 50?

I think they should do 2 special liveries:
1. Gold 737-8MAX similar to Silver One
2. Retro 737-8MAX with the original livery from 1971 with "SOUTHWEST" on the fuselage and "AIRLINES" up the tail.

Would anyone be able to make renderings of those?

Thoughts? What are your ideas?

I would think that something with a retro-like livery would be the most likely to happen here. Although the first option with the gold 737-8 MAX that you mention also sounds like a very good idea.

As much as I would love both of those to happen I have my doubts on anything that extreme being a permanent addition to the fleet.

1. They got rid of "Silver One" due to the high upkeep requirements and now only have a nose decal on the plane (was a -300, now a -700).

2. If they do anything I would expect a variation of this, most likely three 737 MAX8 aircraft painted in the same metallic Desert Gold that 714CB and 711HK have now. Especially considering both of those AC are among their early -700s and will be coming due for retirement in the next few years.

Gary Kelly mentioned that it was also due to the fact that the grey (since it technically was not even silver anymore) did not fit with the colorful vibe of Southwest. I would definitely think that something will be done for their "Golden" anniversary.

The original Silver One was not painted at all it was polished aluminum and it did require many man hours to keep it highly polished. When they did paint it silver it ended up looking a dull grey. Additionally the interior had maroon leather seats with carpeting to match when the rest of the fleet had cloth seats, eventually even that special interior went away.

Someone painted a repaint for a 737 model on Flight Simulator X entitled "Tribute One", with the Desert Gold livery on the front third of the aircraft, Canyon Blue on the middle third, and Heart livery on the rear third. I can't find a picture of it online, but it looked nice IMO

I'd rather have three Desert Gold planes, one Spirit, and leave it at that. But that's just my opinion. All three liveries on one AC? Would be way too busy.

Here is what I predict that the WN 50th Anniversary livery will look like:

• The stripes painted in the brown, red, and orange color scheme like the original WN 737-200 planes
• The current Southwest heart logo painted on the underbelly of the 50th Anniversary planes in the normal yellow, red, and blue colors
• The current Southwest heart logo painted next to the cockpit door in the normal yellow, red, and blue colors
• The words 50th Anniversary displayed on the plane

The WN 50th Anniversary livery planes will be very clearly distinguishable from the original WN 737-200 planes because the WN 50th Anniversary livery will be painted on planes larger than the original 737-200 planes, because the planes that will show the WN 50th Anniversary livery have different engines from the original WN 737-200 planes, and because the current Southwest heart logo will likely be shown on the planes with the WN 50th Anniversary livery.

I was thinking about a WN 50th Anniversary livery similar to what is shown in the picture above, but the darker shade of brown that was used back in WN's livery back in the 1970's could be used to provide better contrast.

f18raider, that is one nice idea. Which program do you use to make such a fantasy airline livery and where do you get the aircraft type to use for making such fantasy liveries? I also want to do this as I liked it a lot when I was younger but I don't know how to do it. Nice work!!!!

If there is a 50th anniversary SWA jet. It won’t be on an 800. Since 800s don’t go to every station in the system.

If not an 800/MAX8 then it will be a MAX7 if they have any by 2021. I highly doubt they would repaint a (by that point relatively old) -700 for their 50th anniversary.

WN has a few 737-700 planes that are less than 7 years old in its fleet, and some of WN's 737-700 planes will be less than 10 years old in 2021. The possibility of WN repainting a 737-700 in a 50th Anniversary livery is certainly there since WN has recently repainted some other 737-700's that are currently less than 11 years old in special liveries (including the current Arizona One, the current California One, the current Lone Star One, Louisiana One, Missouri One, and Tennessee One).

SWA has 7 -MAX7s scheduled for delivery in 2019 so they'll be in the fleet by then, but it seems more logical they'd have a new delivery painted as Desert Gold 1? in 2021. And by that time well over a third of the fleet will be -800s or -MAX8s so virtually the entire network will see the larger models.

I'd love to see a nod to the 1971 flight attendant uniform, hot pants and all, but I fear that wouldn't fly in today's political environment of intolerance.

Heck with the aircraft, bring back the Southwest Airlines AMC Gremlins that used to run around Dallas in the early years! Might have to look pretty hard to find one to restore that's not a pile of rust somewhere....

What did they use those for? I just looked at images on Google and it looks like Continental had some too.
