Just had a question is the new CX 350-1000 to IAD the first airline to fly that to IAD?

I believe it wil be. The only other A350-1000 route at present is DOH-LHR-DOH on QR.

I am not sure if any airline uses the A359 to IAD but I don't think there is any.

I don't believe there is any A350 service to IAD at all, so this may be the first regularly scheduled A350 service into IAD.

Yeah, I've never seen an A350 around here. A lot of A330s, but no A350. It will make the already good plane spotting at IAD even better!

I believe there might have been a Qatar A359 diversion or two from PHL and/or JFK during past snowstorms. Don’t believe there has been a regularly scheduled flight before, though.

Definitely a lot of A330s and 777s and some 747s and A380s too. Also quite a bit of 787 movements with Etihad, KLM, United, and Royal Air Maroc being amongst them. Are there any other 787 operators in to IAD? VX may sometimes, but not 100% sure.

ET used to operate the 787 in low season, but as of the last 2 years has continued 777 use through all seasons. You still may get a random 787 on a very quiet week in February, but it's more of a last minute swap, if anything.

Why they are starting service with an A350-1000? Wouldn't it make more sense to begin with an A359?

BA will be replacing one of the B744 flights with a 787 and adding three more flights on a 787 to make 10 weekly flights on a 787 this fall. Don’t believe VX has ever operated a 787 to IAD.

I am with you on that one good plane spotting will be even better when service starts, any Ideas for a great spot at IAD?, I am so excited for this I do think CX is the first Airline to have any 359 or 351 TO GO into IAD period. Who thought it would be CX to be the first>.

The observation deck at the Udvar Hazy/Smithsonian Air and Space museum is an amazing place to spot. You can see the entire field at IAD and the arrivals often are not much higher than you when they go by on final approach. The downfall is the price though: $15 to park. So it's either pay or take a Fairfax Connector bus. You can also do some decent spotting from the cell phone lot or the Sunoco gas station on IAD property. Honestly though, most of my spotting is just being around Ashburn. It's not as close up, but it seems like wherever you are in town, you're bound to see something coming or going when you look up. Grab a seat on the patio of a restaurant at Dulles 28 shopping center and watch them go over you. Or if you go out Rt. 50, I always enjoy sitting on the patio of Glory Days in Stone Ridge and watching all the departures on runway 12/30.

wow great info thanks for that.. I will check that out would you also know the CX arrival time from HKG?

Arrives IAD at 22:20, departs for HKG at 01:15.
