That may be my favorite logo jet of all time, I was in high school for peak grunge years (90-94) and made the trip to Seattle twice checking out old haunts.

As a former recipient of the Sub Pop catalogue back in the day, I feel disgusted on two fronts. 1:they sold out so hard and 2: they don't have an image of Mark Arm passed out and Tad puking in a bucket plastered on the side.

Never been a huge Sub Pop fanboy (like a lot of their bands, but I'm more of a Kill Rock Stars guy), but this is a pretty cool nod to Seattle (and even Portland) music history. Cool marketing move, looks pretty slick!

Props for the house livery, as well. They found a nice way of keeping commonality while allowing for the special liveries the company is so fond of. Has the Giants plane gotten its tail yet?

I saw the 737-800 this morning, but I had no idea what it was. I guess I'm too old to recognize the brand.

Too bad the "grunge" era was already dead by the time the first 738 took to the skies :frown:

An incoherent, noisy design will no overarching form, style or elegance...kinda like Sub Pop music itself.

Fantastic looking aircraft, I've ridden ship 587 a couple times. Be great if you could listen to come as you are as you walk through the door :D

And why are they bozos? Try and appreciate a different livery.

AS is a Seattle based US airline. Alaska Airlines.
SubPop is a Seattle based US record label. Found/signed/nurtured many local bands, like Nirvana.

Thank you for actually explaining what "Sub Pop" is/was.

Some people into particular cultural sects/hobbies/fads/pass times assume everyone else also follows or their passion. (Such as spotting/pokemon/grunge/classical music, Kardashians...)

Fantastic, very sub pop & PNW! Kudos to AS for being a partner with yet another Northwest company & enjoying the culture that they are part of.

I must admit, I was expecting a bit more than just logos on the fuselage. Images of the great and the good of Sub Pop and Kurt Cobain on the tail !

I love grunge music (early US 90's rock -ish is my favourite rock style). I really like Alaska's eurowhite-butnottotallyeurowhite livery ('cept for the old lady on the tail). But I was kinda let down by this. Maybe should've lived the era, or be more familiar with Sub-Pop itself. I don't hate it overall. I like the meaning of it.

Cobain sold out and left Sub Pop high and dry. They should have posted all the album covers from the Dwarves on it instead.

Didn't check the tail number when this posted, but after checking my records, I flew 587 on SAN-SEA back in 2014.

When Nirvana signed for Geffen ? Wasn't their some sort of reciprocal arrangement between the two labels afterwards ? And hey Sub Pop eventually sold out to Warner Bros en masse. But I'm digressing off topic now. I still think a more interesting logo jet could have been attempted, even just better placement of the logo. I like the intention though and as mentioned earlier, happy 30th anniversary. Now then, where's my old Mudhoney records ?

The article’s photo didn’t LOOK like a -800, even though it surely is. Looked like a -700.

Well, let's call it "The Grunge Years", there were many plusses but were many minuses as well:
-No internet those days but somehow we found an awesome deal on a CargoVan rental in N.H. ( pretty cheap/unlimited miles) So I flew to Boston and picked up the van drove it to Seattle. It was turned into a tour van for the bands. By the time we returned that van in many many months later, I have no idea how many thousands of miles were on it :)
-One of the regular music venues in Seattle, the Off Ramp, had this breakfast when the show ended around 1-2am. It was called "Hash after the Bash", consisted of hash browns, powdered scrambled eggs, breakfast roll... all that for 50 cents :) You have to understand I was living in downtown Seattle in a one bedroom rental for $310/month.

Yikes! It’s a very different city now! You’d never find either of those things now even after adjusting for inflation.

The Offramp is still there, it's just called El Corazon now. Different city indeed though--the change in the last ten years on its own has been staggering.

Anyway, with the livery again, one has to wonder if this is a mild move by Alaska to remind northwesterners (and younger Seattleites, especially) who the hometown airline has been for the last several decades. We're nothing if not homers around here...
