BA line up at JFK photo.

Fri Aug 03, 2018 11:10 pm

With their Huge daily services from the UK and the Open Skies offering what is the highest amount of BA planes on the ground at JFK at its peak?
I've seen a picture on line of 3x 744 in a row with a 767 at the gates, wondering if there's a pic that beats this?

Today's schedule (which is probably off due to the IROP at JFK) calls for 5x 744 and 1x 318 on the ground between 1720 and 1825.

When does the 777 from Gatwick get in? That’s probably in that time period.

Off topic and not to try and torpedo BAs impressive showing there. But I was in MCO last month and Virgin had 5 744s gated. Impressive.
Stand-by for new ATIS message......

I wonder what the most planes a transatlantic airline has on the other side of the pond? BA at JFK has to be one, Delta at Amsterdam? Virgin at MCO? AA at LHR?

Question: With just 1 tail operating this flight, and [assuming this is a high revenue flight since it is all business class], what happens when this tail goes tech? Or has to be taken out for scheduled maintenance?

I am not sure. They had EUNB running BA 3 and 4 at one point and IIRC when one went tech they cancelled one flight and asked for volunteers to move to the LHR flights. But EUNB was sold to someone else last year after 3/4 was canned.

BA/AA have 10 flights between JFK and LHR a day, so I assume if there is MX, passengers are rebooked on one of the 10 flights to London with apologies and compensation.

Edit: 10 to LHR and 1 to LGW.

How about 5 Virgin 747-400's at the same time at the gates in Orlando MCO 3 times a week!

The VS ops at MCO are amazing to see. I had the privilege of taking the 110pm LGW-MCO a month or so back and it was like arriving into their hub, 5 on the ground, 3 at gate, us taxing in, and 1 taxiing out
I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list!

When Jet Airways had a scissors hub at BRU several years ago, there was a period when 6 A330s would be on the ground at the same time.

Awhh, so awesome to see all those 744’s lined up... and sad too knowing they won’t be around long.

What aircraft will BA use to replace the 744 on LHR-JFK? 773?

I flew into SCL back in 2013 and there were 3 AA 767s parked on te taxiway with the doors open.

Last flown aircraft: DH8D OE-LGO < A320 HA-LWC < A320 HA-LWV < A320 SX-DVT < A320 SX-DVK < B733 LZ-BVU < E190 LZ-SOF < A320 D-AIUQ < DH8D OE-LGJ < A321 D-AIRN < A319 LZ-FBB < DH8D OE-LGO < B772 OE-LPC < A346 D-AIHX

Outstanding long haul orders are:
3 x 77W
18 x A350-1000
12 x 787-10
2 x 788
The 77Ws are to replace the three surviving non-ER 772s, between all the others 24 out of the remaining 36 744s will be replaced by 2022. BA loves fleet cascades, so brand new planes don't necessarily appear on the routes operated by the planes they are replacing. There's often a reshuffle.
JFK is likely to be one of the last routes to keep 744s, and the final ones will be around until February 2024.

I did mean registration but the markings on the tail are NA and not numeric on the above bird.

The serial number or MSN is numeric.

Sorry I'm useless at uploading photos but this link is for that pic.
Shows a BA 767 next to a US a320 then 3 744s in a row.
Again sorry if it can't be seen but that's the link to the pic anyway.

Pic says 2008.. Even back then, was a BA 767 regularly scheduled to JFK?

Is that likely to be the MAN service?

Yes, the MAN-JFK service operates in 2008, often with G-BNWH, though I think that photo is dated 2005.

Im slightly disappointed in that I thought there might have been images of far more BA on the ground at JFK at any one time eg during irrops or suchlike. Agree the VS arrivals at MCO seem more impressive

In terms of sheer numbers of foreign aircraft at overseas airports, I think the likes of Palma and Antalya are going to see more. Now, finding a photo of it though...

Found one from a few years ago. From memory, Britannia were operating something like 130 weekly flights at their peak.

Plus, there was Air Berlin...(Although not entirely fair as they were operating a hub there..otherwise you could mention Ryanair at Stansted I suppose.)

Would JFK also be able to claim most Concordes on the ground at the same time, outside of their home bases of LHR and CDG ?

Although of course BA on LHR to JFK is the only one on this list that those aircraft are all operating to the same airport eg LHR taking out the oddball of LCY and LGW flights if you include them and call it overall LON then it’s even more impressive, take for example VS at MCO that will be flights from LHR, LGW, MAN, GLA and maybe even Belfast

DL at AMS will cover flights to all or most of their Hubs etc
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

What are the largest outstations outside of North American for the “US3” specifically?
NRT/LHR/FRA for UA?
CDG/AMS for DL?
LHR for AA?
Just curious, it’s a fun topic...

At times, AA has up to 3 x daily MIA-EZE, plus DFW-EZE and JFK-EZE. And they're adding 3 x week LAX-EZE. You can see a lot of AA metal parked at EZE during the afternoon period. And at FCO, this year, just as last, AA has (all seasonal, except PHL) CLT, JFK, DFW, ORD, and PHL making them slightly bigger than DL at FCO I think in terms of actual aircraft movements.

BA/AA have 12 LHR JFK daily plus BA 1X LCY and 1X LGW
Adding EWR to make broader London New York pairing makes 16 daily

Well, it's technically a picture :D :

Image

Visible are 6 BA 744's, the BA A318 and I believe the OpenSkies 757 (bottom left).

There is a catch though; this satellite view is composed out of two pictures from 2 dates; here it shows June 2th, 2016 but that's actually the right part of the image.
The left part is from April 20th, 2016 but that only removes the BA 744 on the right; so still 5 BA 744's, 1 BA A318 and the OpenSkies 757.

I wonder what the most planes a transatlantic airline has on the other side of the pond? BA at JFK has to be one, Delta at Amsterdam? Virgin at MCO? AA at LHR?

Or globally, we have QF at LAX and JL at HNL.

QF really only leaves three or four planes a day at LAX, if I remember correctly. They're there all day (except for the JFK route), which is pretty neat to see, but there's not an overwhelmingly huge number.

Awhh, so awesome to see all those 744’s lined up... and sad too knowing they won’t be around long.

What aircraft will BA use to replace the 744 on LHR-JFK? 773?

Outstanding long haul orders are:
3 x 77W
18 x A350-1000
12 x 787-10
2 x 788
The 77Ws are to replace the three surviving non-ER 772s, between all the others 24 out of the remaining 36 744s will be replaced by 2022. BA loves fleet cascades, so brand new planes don't necessarily appear on the routes operated by the planes they are replacing. There's often a reshuffle.
JFK is likely to be one of the last routes to keep 744s, and the final ones will be around until February 2024.

Downgauging 747 to 787 and A350, unbelievable! JFK is a route that can definitely sustain upwards of 6-7x 747s every day.
To me, it will always be:
- Bombardier CSeries
- Airbus A321neoLR and A321neoXLR
- EMBRACER ERJ-170, ERJ-175, ERJ-190, and ERJ-195
- MITSUBUSHI MRJ

Anti narrowbody-long range-twinjet gang. Long live the A380 and 747!
