TSA wants to shift screening from small airports to the hubs...

Sat Aug 04, 2018 1:53 am

Shocked there isn’t a thread on this...

TSA wants to stop screening pax at small airports, send them to hubs unscreened and have them screened there. Because no one would put a bomb on and RJ and have it go off at the hub right? Or crash an RJ into a building for that matter.

Are they freakin nuts? Just to save $115 million a year? As if adding screeners in higher cost labor markets wouldn’t pretty much nullify such a small amount of money.
Funny. It only took one pandemic for those who argue endlessly about natural selection to stop believing in natural selection.

Sounds like a proposal, not a plan.

I would be inclined to force municipalities that want an airport to share the costs. Blowing federal dollars in BFE for 40 people to board an RJ doesn't make sense.

And how much will it cost to support this at the hubs? It’s likely well above $115 million a year when you factor in staff, cost of living offsets, equipment and airport terminal modifications. Nevermind the safety aspect.

TSA is pretty useless, so I doubt we will see a difference in safety and security either way. They failed 95+% of the red team tests.

But while we're doing security theater, this proposal is stupid.

And sterile corridors being built or remote aircraft parking, necessitating busses at the hubs.

This would eliminate a good reason to fly from 'small town' airports as it ends the ease of security by not having to do it at a big hub, if connectingaHope it fades away as an idea.
Riddle: Which lasts longer, a start-up airline or a start-up football league?

It's under "Travel, Polls & Preferences", not sure why.

Sure, sounds great. I'm sure that's going to go over really well at places like ATL when a huge bank of RJs touches down for a DL departure bank and everyone onboard needs to be screened...

It means all security screening at the hubs can be gone as well.....as every terrorist will now flying from small airport and blow the plane before they arrive the hub and no one will try to do so on a hub to small airport flight.... yeah...they can save even more money

This reminds me of New Zealand where only planes with over 90 seats have security screening. Up until 9/11, there was no security screening for domestic flights
