OA at ORD?

Mon Aug 06, 2018 12:53 am

There are a number of people I know that are discussing OA's presence at ORD.

Just want to know what the actual years they had presence, and which routings they had

Not a fan of Wikipedia, but I'm pretty sure they didn't: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_O ... stinations
I have been on this site 15 years. A unrecoverable email account led me to starting over. Those of you who call me a rookie, you may stop ok?

They were at ORD in the early 90s an operated ORD-JFK-ATH.
Living in LA, ORD/MDW will always be home!

earlier than that.

From an April 1, 1971 timetable the route was ATH - YUL - ORD three times a week using Boeing 707 equipment.

They may have served Chicago prior to that but 1971 was the earliest reference I could find.

ORD was served by B707 operations and we're definitely a tag on YUL operations, North American services began in 1966 to JFK via ORY.

Later on, the tags went via JFK so ATH-JFK- ORD/BOS/YYZ/YUL.

I remember there being twice-weekly flights via YUL/YYZ for the longest of times, first with 747s and then with A340s.

One of my first memories at ORD was seeing an OA 747 on 14R/32L. Only thing is I don't remember is if that was '92 or '94...? :?

Would enjoy if someone could firm up those 90's dates of service.

They started ORD along with BOS in the very early 90s. I want to say right around 91 or 92. OR went away fairly quickly, but BOS hung around through the mid 90s, if not even later. I can't quite recall if the A340 flew to BOS or not.

I have photographed OA A340 at BOS from a parking garage...later 90s. I can upload a photo later on tonight West Coast time.

ORD was featured as far back as 1971, check the summer '71 timetable and it will list ORD-YUL-ATH

BOS stuck around till around 2001 if I recall, in the late 90s due to the running of the carrier by Speedbird management, OA services to BOS were to be decoupled from JFK services and operated via MAN by the then newly delivered A300-600R aircraft.

They flew the 747 to ORD earlier than that - I have photos of an OA 747 I took in ORD and I moved away in early 1990. Not sure when they dis-continued service but it started sometime in the mid 1980's or sooner

Good stuff! Maybe it was 92 then... was kind of leaning towards that, reaching for the memory banks.

Man I'd love to see those photos if there's any way you can share them here?

They were all shot of film but I did scan one into my computer. I know there's a way to post of photo directly into a reply but darned if I can find the instructions of how to do it. In the olden days there was a way to upload personal photos to your profile and them you could retrieve them and add them to a reply but I don't see how to do that now. I know it cn be done because I see people's pics in these threads all the time. I have tons of old ORD photos from back in the 80's but not a lot of them got scanned over to digital form. You can view the ones that here at this link:

There' a lot of more recent ones shot at SEA but the older ORD stuff that I scanned are visible too

Wow, thanks for sharing and thanks for taking the time to upload those old photos. That really does bring some joy to us plane-geeks. Much appreciated.

I flew on that Lufthansa and Swissair 747's as well! Were those also taken at ORD?

Yes, the LH 742 and the SR 743 pics were from ORD as was the SK DC-10 and a few others - the lineup of UA DC-10's and the terminal shots were of course ORD as well.
