New QR Route Thread

Fri Aug 10, 2018 6:15 pm

What are some of the new routes that QR is looking to start in the coming 6 months? I reckon the following routes have a good chance:

Doha - Ipoh
Doha - Lombok
Doha - Kuantan
Doha - Stuttgart
Doha - Siem Reap
Doha - Talinn
Doha - Shannon
Doha - Wuhan
Doha - Batam
Doha - Chiang Rai
Doha - Pokhara
Doha - Durban
Doha - Kota Kinabalu
Doha - Macau

Cheers,

How about the routes they’ve announced but not launched?

Does QR even have aircraft capable of using Pokhara Airport?
As for some a selected bunch of other suggestions:
Stuttgart - bilaterals, even if they got rights we'd see them at DUS and probably HAM first
Shannon - the West of Ireland? Might be a market to the US but not eastbound
Macau - not really seeing Macau happening especially with the direct ferry and new bridge in HK

Didn't they announce SFO but not launch it? What's the latest on that?

You have all missed the next route on the QR list (UK at least).
At the Cardiff launch Mr. Baker said that the next UK / Irish airport he wants to launch is Belfast International BFS.
This has been reported in local media again recently, we are just awaiting confirmation unless something has changed.
Would not be daily but could support between 1 and 3 days per week.
I have seen an Amiri flight jet in BFS as least once (A340) and there have reportedly been some Qatari property acquisitions in Belfast.

If or when they launch Belfast it won't be 1 to 3 weekly it'll probably be 5 weekly at least like Cardiff was.

Do they fly to Phnom Penh? Some Reap does make sense, if they can make Yangon work- I give Cambodia a good shot.

There are talks of a revised bilateral with Australia, lifting the current 21 weekly cap. If lifted Brisbane is a shoe in!

Link below is for the recently launched routes and upcoming;

https://www.qatarairways.com/en/new-destinations.html

LAS, and SFO are still listed. Along with a few other African, European, Asian, South American and second tier asian routes.

With the entry of Air Italy, perhaps many of the new possible destinations of Qatar Airways are served by Air Italy from Milan (MXP) as Santiago(SCL) , Rio de Janeiro (GIG) and San Francisco (SFO)

I can see Longyearbyen being next announced by the man himself.

Jokes aside, one destination I feel they could add is Surabaya. Currently none of the ME3 serve Indonesia’s 2nd largest city . Quite surprising really.

New routes in six months?
Two weeks ago QR announced five weekly Gothenburg service onboard the 787-8, starting December 12. Already open for booking. It’s their second Swedish destination after Stockholm.

Cebu and Davao in the Philippines were also mentioned by Baker, together with some of those you listed.

Doha-Durban already exists. It's a triangle routing via JNB

QR used to fly to KIX in Japan, but then just dropped that. What was that all about, and could it be reinstated?

I think we’ll see a second daily flight to Dublin before Belfast .

Shannon will only happen as a transit route to Mexico with full fifth freedoms , even then they’d be better off routing via Dublin

I think there’s restrictions on how many flights Qatar can send to Australia, hence the A380 goes to Perth.

What about LIS and Portugal, they have announced to start in 2018 and we are almost in the 4th quarter of the year and nothing...
Is something about lack of slot in Lisbon airport...
