Updated: QX employee steals and crashes Q400 near SEA

Sat Aug 11, 2018 3:36 am

At approximately 8:00PM, an AS employee (most likely a QX pilot) asked ramp tower for permission to do barrel rolls and then took off unauthorized. The q400 in question is reportedly N423QX. SeaTac is currently in a ground stop right now, and FBI and National Guard have been notified.

Source: Can't say

Edit: F-15s were scrambled to intercept rogue aircraft over the Olympic Peninsula. The hijacked aircraft has crashed and a helicopter is over the site right now.

Twitter user @Bensign has quite a thread going right now.

Twitter user Tyler Rogoway @Aviation_Intel reports there may be a crash site and unconfirmed if F-15's shot it down. Of course, this is still unconfirmed.

A good 30% of pilots wouldn't pass a psych eval; too touchy feely for most.

On a serious note, how on earth do you steal a Dash?? You would have to get a ramp crew or someone to push you back which would probably raise some red flags there.

was listening to the pilot of the "stolen" plane. ATC was referring to him as "Rich". Dude sounded so laidback.. as if intoxicated. ATC asked how much fuel, "Rich" said "600". "Rich" asked if 5000ft altitude was high enough to do a barrel roll. ATC asked him to stay low and over the water. "Rich" mentioned one of his instruments being "off". Another pilot of "ATC" told "Rich, now let's talk about trying to land".... and haven't heard anything since then.

Horizon basically is Alaska. Its their wholly owned partner and all of their aircraft are flown for AS. The aircraft was wearing an AS livery.
